Crazy toned 1920 KGV Cdn. Cent....

I've got to send this one to PCGS soon.

Acquired this from a very old collection (I know, it's an 'Ebay line', but it's actually true for this coin).

Best colors and highest luster I've seen in a long time.

The center of the obverse actually has more blue than the picture.

Hoping for at least an ms65.

I'm saying the coin is, but I think PCGS will .91 the coin.

I too would worry about what PCGS thinks of the toning, but on another level, I wouldn't care.

That piece is "wow" eyecandy in my book, for sure. I only hope it is NT.

I like it very much, bit PCGS will bag it.

Well, then. Such a verdict from somebody who calls himself "canadacolornut" is encouraging! image

PCGS may 91 the coin ("when in doubt, bag it"), but it's a very nice looking cent and I have seen this toning pattern before:

I cut this cent out of the ICCS flip and submitted it for immediate body bagging at PCGS. image

I also have seen this toning before, and have cut them out of ICCS slabs to also have them BBed by PCGS. I'm not saying the coin is ATed. In fact, I think it is naturally toned. I just believe PCGS doesn't like this type of toning.

I have not seen that brassy-yellow color on Canadian cents before (maybe it's my monitor). The surfaces look really nice though and may get the 65. Let us know the results.

I have at least 2 George V bronzes (UK) with very similar toning which were graded.

Bottom line is why would anyone try to "deceive" with manufactured AT colours on an otherwise common, plentiful date?

Didn't Pittman have dozens of rolls of this date in choice red unc. condition?

    DE59, nice looking coin, BTW.

    Ah yes, here's a definition for everyone to remember;

subjective grading - (1) the art of being consistently inconsistent.

    (2) triangulation of accurate consensus via repeated fee submissions.

I still can't make my mind up about the toning, but if shroom here, who's a Canadian expert, almost wrote export imageimage
says he's had bad experiences before, it's not encouraging. And Rob's first hunch was similar.

But the surfaces, if it grades, don't justify a 65 IMO. There's dirt in the lettering on the reverse ,and tiny nicks and chatter on both fields.
Then you have Gene, another Canadian expert declaring the surfaces perfect.

I shouldn't even be posting on this thread. image

Very appealing coin. In what was the coin stored in the old collection? Any environmental conditions that you think may have contributed to the toning?

I have to say, even if it holders, I think MS65 may be a bit optimistic - on technical grounds. I would be looking for a 63 or 64.

I agree,63.It has a lot of little hits on the reverse. And the
rim on the obverse. I like the color, and don't think it's AT.
