Help with a French coin

I have a PCI slabbed 1974 French 20 centimes graded MS-65; however the coin is listed on the slab as Y 105 with a mintage of 98,800 - when I looked in Krause I could not find it -the only 1974 20 centimes listed had a much larger mintage.
Can anyone shed some light on this please?

  • Maybe it's a variety. Anyway, I think a picture would help!

Can you tell if it's an extra-thick piedfort variety? I think they made piedforts with small mintages that year....

It could be, but the mintage is 98,800, piefort specimens are usually in the low 104 to 500.
  • Thanks guys - I've been on this forum long enough to know a picture is worth more than a bunch of text - I will image the coin and do another post - I don't think it is a Piedfort because it dosn't seem extra thick.

    Thanks,

  • Is it possible that this is a 20 cent coin from the "specimen fdc sets(fleur de coin)? The mintage for that set was 98,800. It is listed as km#ss11. It is listed in Krause after the mint sets and proof sets.

That is a good possibility as the coin is MS65 - I just don't know where the Y 105 came from.
