Doesn't back centering enter into the grade, or are we still not looking at backs?

So go start a thread on the Beckett boards and stop bothering us.
  • It is because Sir Charles has his legs cut off in the pic.
  • Does the guy with the Captain Spock Star Trek picture go to those conventions where all the people dress up and act out scenes from episodes ?

see, what Nick is doing here is trying to pull a fast one on you. You can thank me later for foiling his plan - Buckett's site has been down for like four days, which has their marketplace dealers and submitters dancing in the streets.

edit: bah, should have finished checking before I started typing - looks like they're finally back up. Site is veeeerrrrrrry slow, though. Please proceed to the Buckett boards and file your complaint.

  • well at least they have the the other sports cards correctly labeled. That is more than I can say for PSA - clueless ...

I too would feel totally indignant if PSA mislabeled an obscure soccer card from the past millennium.

FWIW, having cards of King Kenny and George Best in your sig line is uncool. It's like saying you're a fan of both DiMaggio and Williams. Both are great players, but... you have to pick one or the other.

Beckett doesnt look at borders of the card, but the player. Stockton is much more centered in his card than Barkley, who is waaaaaay of center to the right (or left if were speaking politically)

If I was a grader, I would automatically bump up a card of any Philly player, maybe around 2 grades...if the card was already a 10, I'm not sure what I would do? Perhaps call it Gem Mint 10 squared or something like that.

This isn't funny, it's tragic. I don't have the first damn clue about these centering sub-grades. Maybe that BGS grader was an early riser, or maybe he didn't have any friends.
  • handymanhandyman Posts: 5,440 ✭✭✭✭✭
Well if you bought it already graded. Good for you right. But if you paid to have it graded. Then I am truely sorry for you.

What's funny is how much people complained when bvg took away their subgrades.

At least now they're only getting one grade wrong.

Until we see the back, we have no flippin' idea is Beckett got it wrong. OP is just stirring flames.

So you're saying by looking at only the front that you think the Stockton has 9.5 centering? Really? I never said they got the grade on my Barkley wrong, in fact I think 6 for centering is accurate. If PSA graded this card it would probably get an 8OC or 9OC.

What I was saying is they blew it on the Stockton, which is fairly obvious by looking at the front. Please tell me how I'm wrong. Top/Bottom centering is about 85/15 by my guess; pixel counters feel free to chime in.

I can't tell with complete certainty, as it looks to me like the two cards are presented at different angles. The one on the left seems to be leaning back more, which is an old sellers trick to accentuate some things and mitigate others.

    OK well how about this:

Look how much extra border there is on the top of the Stockton, and notice how the text at the bottom is a lot closer to the edge than it is on the Barkley. There's no way both of these cards should have the same centering subgrade.
  • hammeredhammered Posts: 2,671 ✭✭✭
You know, from this angle it looks closer to 50/50

i'm not sure but the color difference between the cards is obvious...

it's quite obvious to me that Byron Scott was in no position to defend Stockton's crossover dribble penetration dish move.

    that card's a fake. image
