1993 Derek Jeter PSA 10 on EBAY

Derek Jeter Rookie PSA 10
I have had this on my watch list for probably two months and we discussed this card early on once it was listed. It looks like it finally sold and it went out at $19,999.
If this indeed did sell, the seller did a great job of holding out for the price they wanted. It had 49 offers last I had checked.
If anyone has any info to add please do.

3rd rate SS.
;-)
This is what keeps people interested in the hobby and buying new product.
The seller should be applauded for holding firm on a rare item with so much interest.
You may think I'm an idiot, but I like to think I have a pretty good idea of what is going on in certain aspects of the marketplace and when someone is out of line on a price and/or is manipulating a price point for future gain. With regard to the Jeter SP, I'm pretty confident that I know what's going on.
As I said when there was a lot of chatter about another PSA 10 up for sale, it was bogus and it turned out to be so. It was a card that I owned and had sold to another individual who was buying for the largest Modern RC Card collector in the hobby. The "seller" used an old image, not realizing who now owned the card or that the flip had been changed to reflect the current owner's collection.
Hey, I could be wrong and someone may have executed the BIN. But, in my opinion, there's a greater chance of the Super Bowl ending 2-0 than there is of that card having sold at that price. Let's wait and see (and keep an eye on the feedback)...

trouble maker.
I just posted this as it caught my eye and I thought it was worth a mention.
All of the games that go on you could be very well right.
<< <i>over rated
3rd rate SS. >>
For a "3rd rate over rated SS" he has more hits as a SS then any other MLB SS of all time.
<< <i>I wonder if Twiley bought it? >>
No. I didn't pull the trigger on it.
I highly doubt someone spent 20K. IMO the seller had another account or a friend buy the card. I bet the transaction is canceled as well so no fees for the seller. As Scott mentioned I believe it is a ploy to try and raise the price on what is a 4K-5K card. I am willing to bet the card resurfaces somewhere else 4 sale and a link to that ebay sale saying it sold for 20K to try and get someone to spend even more on it.
<< <i>Do you really think he got $20K for that? My guess it is akin to the ploy that some of the auction houses use by setting/raising the bar with a "reported" sale that never happens to justify a higher price (albeit significantly less than the "reported" price) somewhere down the line. Watch and you'll see that certification number back up on eBay or at an auction house in the near future and the realized price will be less than half of the recent "sale" price. >>
My first thought when seeing that final price. I don't think this card is going to any buyer, it's all a setup for the next time it's sold of which probably will be soon I'm sure.
<< <i>Scott you clearly know sports cards.

Thanks. I know very well the small segment of cards that I know. And I know when to defer to others on things that I don't know well enough. As I've said for eons, I wish others would follow the same modus operandi. The forums would be so much better without all of the conjecture, stabs in the dark and misinformation.
I'm not suggesting that that was your intent, but knowledge in this hobby is critical to avoiding financial pitfalls (and even then it isn't a guaranty) and making assumptions based upon what things appear on the surface is oft times dangerous. Perhaps I'm more skeptical than most, but being cautious and still having money in my pocket is more beneficial than being careless and losing it. As I say when I play poker, it is better to fold a winning hand than to overplay a losing hand.
My comment was dripping in sarcasm.
Ok 2nd rate, better?
Steve
I was thinking the same thing. I see these refractor cards sell for prices that are simply insane and this guy is a proven winner and it is a card that is just not out there.
I by no means know what the price of this card should be but one thing I do know is it is not going cheap what ever that price may be.
whats a nice 9 or 8 go for?
stupid money paid; wonder how much he REALLY got for the card, if he sold it at all.

I am not certain what the point of this is. Why on earth would you end an auction as a sale and relist the next day. Anyone could easily search the recent listings and see the exact same card ended yesterday.
A buyer who can afford a $20,000 sports card is a little smarter then most. This is simply stupid and will kill this sellers chances I think at moving this card.
<< <i>Scott was right! >>
I hate it when that happens...
So give an estimate at what this card could sell for.

Oh Great, now Scott will be intolerable at the National!!

stupid print dots
Personally, I felt the value was near the peak when I sold mine, especially considering I have a few PSA 9's that looks as nice or nicer than the PSA 10 I sold but at less than 10% of the price, I like the risk/reward factor going forward.

I'm always intolerable!
Unless of course I had some dope who would give me 5k or whatever the experts think it's 'worth' than I'd pay the grand.
It's something I can live without though.
To each their own.
Ok, back to the earlier auction, buyer reneged? BS seller? What's the consensus here?

Won't touch that with a 10 ft. pole Steve - but there is a back scan - scroll down.
Boy - what I could do with 20K!!!!
The quality on those cards was poor IMO - tho the set was popular.
So, if someone has a true 10? It would be very rare - I would guess one could open a full case and not come up with 1 good Jeter?
I figured the rest was BS and the old God Bless 96 times!
because my friend told me he was a stud. I ask if had any. He opens his box and no
Damons but he says I have 7 of this guy Jeter and I said not interested
This is the reason I am in the poor house and others are making 5000 grand on a card lol.

I am ok with #2. I like that number
<< <i>Twiley nice Jeter set.. Do you have a raw collection? >>
Thank you for the compliment. I do have a raw collection that parallels all the graded cards.
