Tuesday night 1980 Topps cello box break (from BBCE)

I'll be opening these in about twenty minutes. Just got them from BBCE. Scans of cards to follow.

One full cello box of 1980 Topps and 6 packs of 1981-82 OPC

Packs out of the box. One has a Pete Rose on top. I will gamble on there being a Rickey rookie in that pack...

    Rose looks well centered.

Funny thing about the Rose pack. It is tight and appears totally different than every other pack in the box. See the pack on the right. All other packs are completely loose and have so much gum dust on them I would guess the box lived on the top of a washing machine for the last 30 years. Anyway, could it be that star packs could be inserted in boxes? I have no other explanation for the Rose pack. I'll take it.

Ripped the 6 opc packs first. Huge disappointment. For all the HOF rookies and major stars, I got a Denis Savard rookie that has a factory blemish and a corner that looks like its been chewed by a dog. Fun to open packs from 1981, but I had my hopes set on at least one gradable card. Nothin'.

Highlights from the first four packs. Looks like 4-5 centered cards in each pack. Also looks like printing and factory defects on 90% of the cards. Some very nice commons. What am I looking for that set registry guys want besides the obvious?

Next four packs... Rickey Henderson rookie. Looks nicely centered. Good surface. DING on upper left hand corner. Ouch.

Not much to celebrate in these packs except mint commons and mangled stars. Five packs to go...

And the Rose on top pack was completely different than the rest of box when I opened it up. I preferred the loosely wrapped cellos. No damage from warping or gum whatsoever. That's it for tonight. Hope you enjoyed watching. I'm building a set from 1980 from packs, so I'm just having fun with these cards anyway. Anyone out there with 1980 topps needs let me know. I've got dupes...

Thanks for sharing! The Yaz and Perry are best centered among the star cards. Congrats on pulling a Rickey! The Rose cello was most likely from a different box...in 1980 Topps wrapped some cellos loosely and some tight (like 70s cellos).

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

Thanks for sharing! Agree with Tim, box probably was missing 1 pack and someone
    added one.

    I think ya did ok.

Thanks guys. I'll post some more of the mint cards tonight. Every time I bust packs I learn something...

Keeps me coming back with $$ in hand.
