What's a good price for a Jackie Robinson cut auto?

Hey guys, I have decided that with some of my "Hocus Focus" money I am going to buy a Jackie Robinson cut auto (PSA/DNA certified) and make a custom card out of it.

The only place I have seen any so far is on eBay and they seem a priced a little high. And doing a search for completed items they don't seem to be selling at those prices. Does anybody know what the real value is on a quality PDS/DNA certified cut from Jackie?

Anybody have any other sources for these besides eBay?

There is one on eBay right now that I like, but the seller wants $1000. I was thinking $800 would be more inline for a standard cut. I contacted hm to make an offer but have not heard back, so maybe I insulted him with that offer.

Thoughts?

Look through Legendary Auction's past auction results.

$400-900 seems about right, depending on quality, item, etc.

    Here's one

I don't think you insulted him with your offer.

    Good luck in your quest!

I havent seen the cut, but if it has best wishes, which is commons, I would pay a little more. his cuts are very very abundant, his 55 topps card signed however is another animal. I would say 500- 800 that was before I even read the responses.
  • I've been following Jackie auto prices on eBay for awhile, here is what the last few PSA/DNA slabbed cut sigs have sold for:

    6/24/10 - $589
    10/10/10 - $492
    11/13/10 - $515
    11/19/10 - $559
    1/6/11 - $532

I agree that $1000 is way overpriced based on sales over the past 6 months. Here's a link to the last one sold on eBay:

Wow, cuts of JR really sell that high??

His signature is extremely common... there are thousands of his sigs out there now since his wife dumped a ton of personal checks on eBay years ago... I should have bought up all of them back then image

  • Thanks everyone for all the great information. It helps a alot to have your opinions and expertise.

I am definitely staying away from all those "check" autos. I don't like the looks of them and know there are hundreds of them. That is why I am going to make my own custom cut card and not try and get one from Topps or Upper Deck. Seems like you have to pay quite a premium to get a cut auto that is on an official card and usually the cut is ugly or off of a check anyway.

If you are patient, you should be able to find one for $400-600

Try Heritage Auction House (Sunday night sports auction) , RRauction.com, and place calls to Jim Stinson sports, and Richard Simon Sports, and between those places you should find a reasonable one (and most importantly, an AUTHENTIC one, in a couple months.)
