1989 OPeeChee Hockey, EOT from PSA

I havent done much research on OpeeChee hockey from the 1989 year, was curious if sheet cutting was common with these.

I got hammered with Evidence of Trimming on both of my 1989 OpeeChee Joe Sakic submissions, I purchased these years ago at a card show with the whole set.
Like everyone else who gets slapped with EOT I am scratching my head as they were absolute gems and matched up in size to the rest of my OpeeChee's from the same year.

Not sure how to share my submission but I also had some '64 hand cut bazookas authenticated, curious of bundling the handcut cards with my other cards set a weird tone for the grader?

By the way my '87 donruss Greg Maddux that i've owned since childhood was also deemed EOT.

Final submission results?
8 cards subbed 3 with EOT, I didnt fair so well on the $10 January special image

You probably got an over cautious grader, who is out to make some $$ for PSA. They'd probably like you to re-submit again. Many cards get graded correctly the 2nd time through. One of the reasons my membership was not renewed a couple years ago. When 61% of one of my subs all bumped a complete grade when cracked and re-subbed I bailed.

Much cheaper just to buy already graded IMO. Especially in today's economy.

One thing to note is that this is only my second sub since my membership was established last May 2010.

My hesitation with subbing the same cards again is that they will have record of grading it previously.
I was very picky in choosing these cards for submission as I was certain they would have a legitimate shot at a gem mint 10 grade.

Are they telling me that I need to pay more $$ to earn my 10? is that the conspiracy theory...

    Wow, that's a real bummer.
There are so many 10s on Sakic OPC; maybe they didn't want anymore?
I'm messing with you. The 89 OPC didn't exhibit the major rough cuts like
the other OPC of the 80s. I know that most of the ones that came out of the
vending cases were in superb condition pending centering. As far as sheet cuts,
I'm sure it's a possibility. Like Gameusedhoop said, you may just have gotten a very
cautious grader who didn't want to take any chances. I'm not even sure if they show
it to several graders to get a majority vote. Time to play the resub game?

I don't think you have to worry about that.
    Good for you.

It's unfortunate that now I will have to be even pickier about what to submit.
I just don't see any value in subbing anything modern, I may have to try sending these to beckett.

There was a ton of bulk cut OPC product from that issue done off site. Skids of uncut sheets were sold and outside sources had them cut or sold raw sheets. This is very similar to what Topps did for awhile in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Several bulk dealers cut their own cards. One particular company I recall was in Rochester, NY (RBI Collectibles).

I've seen a lot of sheet cut 1989 OPC. It's out there more than other OPC years it seems. Lots of 1984 OPC sheet cut floating around out there too.

1989-90 OPC hockey reminds me of that Hunter S. Thompson quote in "Fear and Loathing..." about being able to see where the wave of the American Dream broke.

Good info though on the off-site cutting. My buddy just told me he uncovered a 1600 count box full of Darren Puppa, Shayne Corson, and Brian Leetch rookies. That's over 500 of each for those of you keeping score at home. He had totally blocked out the purchase from his memory around 1992.

I remember touring that facility and leaving with several rolled sheets (not specifically OPC or hockey) under my arm. It was cool seeing how they cut and packaged the cards.
