My Negro League TTM Project (4 in today 1/29 Lumpkin, Altman, Evans, & Greason)

Way back in 2008, I started sending to former players from the Negro League. Sometime in 2009, I stopped. I came across the signatures the other day and have started sending out requests again. Most of the guys seem pretty nice answering questions and such. Some even take the time to answer with a full letter. I am going to start scanning my past successes and post them along with my future returns. I really enjoy hearing from these players, they are true baseball history.

Here's one of my original successes and why these guys are great.

Clinton "Butch" McCord signed 2/2 index cards, included a card of his own and added a note about playing in Miami.

Doug, it's true. So far, out of all the TTM I have done, the Negro League players have been the nicest. I look forward to these returns because they seem to appreciate the fans more.

Thomas Turner signed 2/2 IC's and added a long note answering a question. Take time to read the letter, it is a great story, it will make you feel good inside.

Received my first new successes today.

Clifford Brown signed 2/2 IC's and added 2 signed cards.

Umpire Bob Motley replaced the IC's with a signed ad for his book.

I don't know if you've sent to him yet, but Charley Pride is kind of a neat one to get since his claim to fame is nothing close to baseball.

This one came today:

Henry Presswood sent back the index cards with his team history but didn't sign them. He did however sign his name on the envelope along with his return address. He also added a note on the bottom of my letter.

Very nice returns. I remember Altman playing for the Mets and then for the Cubs ... I had no idea he played in the Negro league as well.

For the CUBS fans ... Only player in 19-year span (1955-1973) other than Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, and Ron Santo to lead Cubs in RBI in one season (1961).
