It appears to be a pretender issue, during the 19th century there were several claimants to the French throne, Charles X was definitely one of them. Often times they would have patterns produced and even some limited production of coins to give to supporters etc. The pieces were struck in bronze, silver and gold - the latter two for the more important people.

  • It's either a contemporary or modern (Chinese) counterfeit.

Charles X ruled from 1824 to 1830 when he was thrown out. The 1828 BB (Strasbourg Mint) 5 Franc (KM-728.3) should be 900 fine silver and weigh 25 grams per Krause. Based upon the appearance and weight of your coin, I'd say contemporary counterfeit.

    I hope this helps,
