My 1952 Topps Collection Updated 1/29/2010

To begin, I got hooked on ball card collecting through my dad. He collected cards in the 50s, and was fortunate enough to save them. Kept them organized in boxes. He collected Topps baseball cards exclusively, and as a kid assembled complete sets of 57s, 58s, 59s, 60s. He had almost enough duplicates for a second 57 set, as well as many, many duplicates from the ensuing years. For several years I've helped him finish his sets (he had partially complete sets of 61s and 63s). For Christmas, we finished the 63 set, with a Willie Stargell in PSA 7. Wondering what to do next, I figured why not start something new, why not go for the big one: the 52!
We're not rich by any means, so this'll be a long haul, a few cards here and there, building slowly up. We're going for maximum quality: centering, good corners, saturated colors and nice alignments of each dye layers. As far a quantitative grade, PSA 5s and 6s are the baseline, but ultimately the card's the thing, not the plastic.
Regrettably, I don't have any HOFs or High numbers to show, and those will probably be a bit further down the line (I'm a recent college grad, so you can imagine what my income is like!). It'll just be commons for now. But it's going to be great fun cherrypicking the best that I and my Dad can afford, and building something really special.
And with that, below are the first six cards, with more to (hopefully) follow soon.

Best of luck to you both!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Good luck on the rest of your set Brian.
My dad is long gone and when he was around we were not close at all. So 1st--congrats on doing it with your dad, and 2nd...what a set!!
Eventually I'll try to tackle it, but not now. Good Luck.

Again, they are pretty rough, but here they are!
