I've been a member for only a couple years, but have followed them closely for a long time and attend the conventions. My membership number is above 22,000 so I guess there are probably about 25,000 members .. or have been. It is very very active.
Numismatic author & owner of the Uncommon Cents collections. 2011 and 2025 Fred Bowman award winner, 2020 J. Douglas Ferguson award winner, & 2022 Paul Fiocca award winner.
I never joined but I want to. I have a decent Canadian collection including a full run of dates on cents from 1953-2009. About half of them have been found in circulation in the US. About 2/3rds are in need of an upgrade, but at least I have them. Have some but not as many of the other denominations, too.
It's more of a cash flow, as in, lack of, that I havn't joined than anything else.
I even started a thread about it, probably in 2009. No clue when exactly.
Their convention was once at Moncton, a location where I was visiting. I went to it and President J. J. Pittman (I think this was the same year he was president of the ANA) recognized me and wanted to instantly induct me into the organization after I expressed an interest in their clam bake. I backed off when I saw how antsy the other officials were over that suggestion. The clam bake was on a sandbar in the ocean. They ended up marooned there for a time since nobody came to pick them up.
edit: This was back before the CNA became the RCNA.

I can think of worse places for being marooned. Like the ditch of snow I spent 3 hours in during a blizzard tonight deep in the Wisconsin forest.

It might have been more exciting if the tide was coming in. This was 25 miles from Moncton and not on Bay of Fundy tidewater, so the tides are mild in comparision.
I am a lifer, joined approx 10 years ago. It is well run by a very enthusiastic and dedicated executive committee. The conventions include a group of education seminars focused an various areas of Canadian collecting. I've attended 7 of the last 10. The next one is in Windsor across the river from Detroit.
