What kind of BuulCrap from Paypal is this?

Evening,

Am selling stuff off out of my store at 50% off, clearance stuff. E-Bay Buyer buys two PSA graded cards in two different listings for low dollar, one is $5 and second is $15. Sends two different payments with shipping of $3 each, total $6, too much, I don't charge more than .50 cents extra for two cards usually. I go to the Order details page in Paypal (Which I have done hundreds of times before on Shipping overpayment) and attempt to refund shipping for one of the auctions of $3. PayFrickinAssW!pePal, says I can only refund entire amount of payment, not partial to make Shipping right!
WTF is this!!!

I am getting more confused about the rules every day!!!!

  • i have never had that problem, ever. Folks buy two things, pay separate and easily refund them, unless something has changed. Just send a note to the buyer and do a gift refund or something, dont go crazy over Pigpals quirks.
  • Call them up typically they are somewhat helpful.

I have refunded on shipping costs as well. But the last time I tried it said the same thing yours did.

    Neil,

You must be doing something wrong. I just checked and was able to issue a partial refund for as little as $1 from the paypal transcation.

  • Had this problem before, if the buyer pays with a credit card Paypal has told me you cannot issue a partial refund. It has to be all or nothing. I'd just give him $2.50 back in cash when you send his cards. Lately I have had a real run on buyers doing the same thing, not waiting for my invoice and paying for multiple shipping costs.
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

Actually, good solution, and why I occasionally come here to get some advise. Thanks for the idea. Will do this, have done variations of this before. Just ddin't think I had too anymore, but in this new world of of PayPig getting it right (Wrong) I'll do what I have to to get my part right!!

    Thanks

    Have a great evening!@!!

I think you should have called the buyer up and berated them for not

    waiting for an invoice.

How dare they pay for two different items separately?

I think something like this happened to me once, I simply
included the overage with the items.

Yesterday I simply gifted a few dollars to a buyer.

Maybe I should have came here first?

    Good for you.

This doesn't sound right at all. A partial refund is warranted not only before the shipment to adjust a shipping cost, but also after the customer gets the merchandise if something needs to be returned or adjusted in price. If the customer already has the merchandise and wants to return one item out of ten, you won't be able to issue a refund when he returns the one item. You'd have to refund the entire amount and then hope he repays you for the cards he kept, or have him send back everything, issue a full credit, and then have him repay you the new amount.

In the real world, anytime a credit card user returns something or gets a price adjustment, the refund has to get processed to the original card. The reason this is done is so the customer can't dispute the charge or that a refund was issued. If you refund the money any other way you could end up losing twice if the customer later disputes the charge. PayPal gifting, or sending cash along with the shipment could come back to haunt you if the buyer later claims he wasn't satisfied.
