I saw it when it was first sold at Heritage, May 2009 and I loved the look of the coin. Unfortunately, it went too rich for me and ultimately sold for $70k hammer ($80.5k total). I expect someone will pick it up cheaply here as the last one to sell (Stacks, Jan 2010, Lot 1132) hammered for $40k ($46k total). The Heritage/CNG (Patrick Tan) coin is a much nicer coin.
I looked at the CNG website and I am completely baffled when the coin will hit the auction block. They really need to redesign their website. (I since found the info on the printed catalog.)
<< <i>Did you look at the 1770 NR VJ? What is your opinion on it?

I consider it a low end but very attractive semi-PL 64. It does have a bit of green encrustation on the rim at one spot. I don't know if it will come off, but it's not a significant consideration.
Doggedly collecting coins of the Central American Republic.

I saw that and doubt it will come off without damaging the coin. It didn't detract the beauty of the coin to me, and I hate verdigris in all forms.
Anyway, it hammered for $50k, a significant bargain for the lucky buyer. A $20k drop (plus the juice on the $20k) in less than 2 years!
