1954 Aaron VCP

Can someone help me out with average prices for 1954 Aaron rookies?

I'm looking for prices for:
PSA 4
PSA 5
PSA 6

I'm sorta leaning towards avoiding psa 6 simply because of the whole craigslist fake thing. Is there any surefire way to spot them (common psa numbers or something?)

The CL fakes are easy to spot

On the 1954T Aaron PSA-6/PSA-7 CL fakes... they have the same bar codes but different numbers.

Its easy to spot the fake Aaron's by just looking at the card, not the slab. The others are not so easy, until I actually see more of them I dont know the ways to spot them now sinse its been 3 years sinse Ive seen them when they first hit CL

    CL fakes are known in...

    1909 T206 Cobb red PSA-6
    1909 T206 Cobb bat on PSA-6
    1933 R319 Ruth #53 PSA-5
    1933 R319 Gehrig #92 PSA-6
    1934 R320 Gehrig (unknown #) PSA-5
    1951B Mantle PSA-4
    1952B Mantle PSA-6
    1954T Aaron PSA-7
    1954T Aaron PSA-6
    1955T Clemente PSA-6
    1956T Mantle PSA-7

There have been only 2 different BAR CODES seen, but there may be more. I believe the con making them has made 2 different batches, they are found in 2 different types of PSA slabs, one is close to the real slabs (if not real), the other is not that good and easily seen as a knock off slab.

  • I recently purchased this one, is it a fake?

  • They're all made out of the same material.......cardboard image

I hate to say this, but that is one ugly looking 6.
  • i was unaware of the craig's list cards. hopefully this one is legit. here's a bigger scan

48leaf...scan with the lid open and the lights off in the room. Need to see the outer edges of the case to see if there is any frosting.

The colors lead me to believe it is legit, but like others said, a black background can allow you to see the edges of the case better.

indeed.....so comparable, that its serial number was used on the just completed sale of the Craigslist FAKE 7....you do know this, don't you? image

    Thanks Steve,

    I really like it...

It looks like a 7 to me. The only flaw is on the edge bottom left where the border is pushed in a little bit. Assuming this must have downgraded it from a 7 to a 6. Still, to me it has nicer eye appeal than most 7s out there.

  • Can I ask the obvious new guy question?

How do I spot a "Craigslist Fake"?

If I'm asking something that has been asked 100 times already, could you please post a link to the thread that explains it?

haha, sorry to derail this thread. good to know though...

Here is the '54 Aaron photo again, all the cards above are authentic image

Best place to look is the small action shot (face and fingers have no detail), also the flips have the same Bar Code, and the gap between the "Y" and "A" on flip is narrower, among many other ways to tell.

PS the PSA-7 fake sold on eBay yesterday for $1,375, the PSA-6 was on eBay a couple months ago, Ive seen at least 8-10 of them (some may be the same cards) over last 3 years but didnt keep scans until last week.

Look at the label on the fake Aaron that used Cpetti's cert #. The label alone is a dead give away that its fake.

edited to add....Look at the slab as well. That slab is so frosted that you ought to put a birthday candle on it.

How lazy do you have to be to prepare a fake flip with an existing number and not simply install a font to print a barcode to match the cert???

cpettimd, I printed out the image of your card and scanned it with my bar code reader. The bar code scan matches the cert # on your slab. So you should be in good shape. I did print out the image of the Aaron sold on ebay yesterday and scanned that bar code. It comes out as : 16997954 Which is a 1955 Koufax PSA 8.5. I bought my bar code scanner off ebay for the purpose of addressing this very issue.

Your barcode matches your cert # too.

So did anyone ever get the VCP values for the OP?
  • cpettimdcpettimd Posts: 1,050 ✭✭✭
The cert number used in this auction was from my card
I contacted PSA customer service with the info
they are supposed to get back to me
the shoul re- encapsulate my card with a new cert # at their expense
they need to preserve the integrity of the PSA product
    please see the other thread

Not yet...you may go ahead and do that. He wants 3's, 4's, and 5's and possibly 3.5's and 4.5's .
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
    No, he wanted 4, 5 and 6.

    No mention of .5's
