so much for that steal

I won a lot with the title "300+ rookie cards".
The description makes it clear that these are mostly cards from the last few years with Beckett values of $2-5 each - 814 cards in total.
Due to the really bad title, I took the lot for the opening bid of $0.99 (+ $10 shipping).
I paid rapidly.
He responded with this message:
<< <i>Due to the low purchase price I have decided to ask you to agree to cancel this transaction, I have already refunded your payment thru paypal. Please expect a note from ebay to start the process. The shipping costs are more than than the transaction. Please let me know if you wish to reevaluate your purchase price or send me an email at [nonperforming seller's email address redacted] Thanks jim

I didn't even bother responding to that email. He got a neg with all 1 stars. We'll see how long jimm1859 lasts on eBay with that as his only feedback in the last year.

This for example:
"College 11 cards@$35.00" If those are Press Pass or Sage cards the more likely value is $11.00 or less.

I pay as soon as the auction ended looking forward to getting a pair of arod gamers for a really cheap price.
later the next day I look to see if they are shipped & I get a refund in my paypal saying the price was to low & he started the bidding at .99 to keep his ebay costs down, I let him know I wasn't pleased but later talked him into selling me the pair for the original price saying that I would leave a response to my original feedback getting him going in the right direction if the gloves looked OK.
Why do these guys start the bidding so low if they want more cash. just start it a little higher. If it does not sell that obviously its not worth that much.
I also just won a swisher game used wirst band from a reputable guy I have dealt with before for .99 & it was shipped same day.
You never know who you are gonna get on E-bay...
Opening bid should always be the minimum you're willing to accept.
I would have neged, as we.

Kiss me twice.....let's party.
I guess he expected the selling price to be $2000.99

<< <i>Looking at the lot of cards he is showing, the average price to reach $2000 would be at $6 a card, MOST of the players he has listed do not even have ONE card that books for that amount, so unless he has about 25 1/1's he didnt list, there is no way that lot is worth anything more than $25 total >>
While his title said 300+, his team-by-team breakown gave 814 cards. My expectation was that most of the cards would be the kind that have a Beckett price of $2-$3 and sell in dealers' dime and quarter boxes. I'm figuring $50-$80 total value.
