Item paid for, now eBay transaction needs to be cancelled - What next?

I sold an item that got damaged in transit, so now I need to issue the buyer a refund. How do I get my eBay fees returned to me?
I know how I can open an unpaid items/cancel transaction case when the buyer hasn't paid, but I haven't run into a situation where I issue a refund and need to get my eBay fees recovered.
Any tips?

If refund is through Paypal, refund of fee is part of the function of the refund. It spells it out in the itemization of the refund.

I replied to your PM, but I have figured it out since then. I appreciate yours and Neils help!
Thanks!

Unless they've changed something, I don't think this is true. The PAYPAL fees get returned as part of the refund. The feebay final value fee does not, because the buyer could still pay by a different method and still receive the item.
This is what he needs.
