ebay / paypal buyer protection question

Got this question from my friend, but I'm not an expert by any means so I thought I would ask the board. Here is what he asked:

So I'm maybe thinking about buying a nice watch on Ebay in a few months, depending on how much I get for graduation and after I start making some money this spring. I've been researching quite a bit, and I think I have a good idea what to look for as far as sellers and feedback, and good questions to ask and whatnot. What I want to make sure of though, is that Ebay Buyer Protection covers the full price if I get the watch, have it authenticated, and it turns out to be a fake. From what I've read, some fakes are so good that even legitimate sellers have been fooled from time to time. Do you happen to know?

  • Should be covered since the item was not as described (being authentic).

  • I've been using ebay since 1998 and I can't figure out what protection a buyer can get from ebay that's not already provided by paypal.

The only two disputes I've had to initiate as a buyer, I just did a straight chargeback, which resulted in a nasty e-mail from paypal each time, but screw 'em!

I wouldnt be surprised if paypal done away with payments with credit cards because of chargebacks.

The few chargebacks they endure are greatly outweighed by all the money they make via credit card payments.

Good Advice: Save the money, avoid ebay altogether, buy a cheap watch and put the rest in gold.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
