I have $100 to spend to fill my stocking with 80's unopened from BBCE, Help me decide--UPDATED with

So my wife just informed me that she wanted to put about $100 in opened packs and such in my stocking this year. Rather than go to Target and buy blasters, she asked if I wanted to get some older stuff from BBCE. Help me decide what to order from Steve tomorrow. Hoping he will cut me a little break and allow me to maximize my money.

My thoughts after viewing BBCE site are and making some assumptions on what Steve will charge me for the following:

1 QTY- 83 Donruss Wax Box- $62 EA..
6 QTY- 89 Score Football- $6.30 EA.

Let me know what you would choose.

Thanks in advance.

  • How bout a run of Topps baseball rack packs from 80-84 . Looks like you
    could get 2 of each.

  • Matt,

let me start by saying you have THE coolest Wife around! even knowing what bbce is is incredible! lol

i think you should go the more packs, not full box route. the thing i like most about ripping lose packs vs
whole boxes on pre-insert wax is the possibility of hitting some stars across a number of releases.

What i mean is, sure you can rip a whole box of '83 Donruss and possibly hit one of each of the Gwynn/Sandberg/Boggs,
but if thats what youre going for, picking up a factory set might be a "better bet"

Ripping 80s wax is not about pulling a "hit" as much as it is enjoying it (especially if one collected through the decade)

    sorry for the ramble

I would do rack pack run

    1 rack pack from 1980 - 1987 would be $56

88 & 89 are sold in full boxes, 1 of each would be $20

Total of 56 Topps rack packs for $76. The extra $24 would cover shipping.

  • Even though they've dropped a bit recently, 89 Score Football packs are still way too much. Pack price vs raw rookie card value is way off.

Early 80s Topps baseball is always my favorite way to go
  • If it were my $100, and those were the rules, I would buy two or three rack packs of '83 Topps baseball- and use all the rest to buy as much '80 Topps baseball as possible.
