I think so too. With Vishnu and Sanskrit, I would certainly pursue that direction first.

Any possibility they might be Nepali temple tokens?
  • These are outwith my comfort zone also regards an ID , but i can't help notice something looks "out of place".On the reverse of the upper coin , is that VR towards the lower part of the item ?
It might well point to Victoria and that would mean India.

They're both hindu temple tokens - ramatanka. There are a few good discussions of them out there. This one covers quite a bit (for a Flickr post!).

I thought it was VR too at first, but on reflection it looks like NR which to an anglicised person might indicate N......... Railway, so I started off on that track initially (excuse the pun).

The top one is a Diwali (Festival of Lights) medal. The discussion of this example on Zeno.ru gives a translation of the various inscriptions. "NR" stands for the National Refinery, Bombay. It claims to be made from .999 fine silver.
Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one.

    Wonderful. Many thanks to all.
The top one is certainly silver, the bottom one probably so as it rings and weighs ok. As far as I am aware, both were obtained by my father on his way home from POW camp at the end of WW2, probably in Columbo where they laid over for a day or two.
