Re: 2011 PSA Service Fee and Submission Update

Return shipping costs going up again? And why not add a long overdue return shipping option for a 1 to 4 card submission, in a small flat-rate box at $4.50 plus insurance?

Too hard to make money if you can't gouge on shipping. Never gonna happen IMO.

Give me a break when the USPS says they lose money....I think it is really their PROFIT has done down "X dollars". I'd like to know how many millions they PROFIT every year. I have no idea if that is public information or not.

I believe it was stated on here at one time to open a FedEx account and use that option on your subs. It's supposed to be pretty simple.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe PSA has any way of determining the cost at that point.

Don't know if Fedex has changed it's policies or not, but they used to limit any insurance claim of Sports Memorabilia to $500. No matter how much coverage you pay for.

Wouldn't it be nice to have your $25 K sub go missing and have them give you $500?

My guess, would be that by shipping Fedex any liability would be shifted to them by PSA. I've seen my Fedex guy in action here, nothing of value would ever be entrusted to him if I have ANY other option.

It is the insurance that drives up the cost so much. If you are sending thousands of dollars worth of merhcandise in two to three day deliverary it is not cheap.

I would rather them keep charging the same or just a touch higher for shipping as indicated and keep running killer specials.

I do agree that there should be a smaller sub shipping price if you are simply sending in a few cards but here again the insurance is the true variable to the cost.

  • the USPS is losing money because they have to fun their pension plan. time for some cuts; also time to cut every government employees pension and stop them from collecting their full pensions while going back to work and getting full pay. This goes for every garbage man, city councilor and state rep.

we should all try to shoot ourselves in the foot......and miss.

the USPS has victimized itself by continuing to live by policies which were established when they were still riding horses, in fact, i think some still do.....i've seen my locals in action, constantly beotching and moaning about how they don't update, replace or repair anything......recently, i stood in front of a clerk for 5 minutes while she tried to reload the sticky label machine, ya know, the one that makes your postage.......another clerk told me the other day some of the new clever names they've created for their supervisor. image

so, they're inefficient, slow, undependable, unpredictable and.......they're still pretty much all we've got.

as others have stated, FedEx is not an option unless you are content with $500 maximum value submissions, which will drive up your costs anyways.

long live the USPS, an American institution capable of teaching us all how to suck every last bit of positive energy out of a thriving, well-established organization......and then ask it to make itself better.

So many comments to be made on this thread and so little time

    (1) USPS is a perfect example of why the govt should not run anything the private sector could

    (2) I love the fact that we have a "too much shipping, ding his stars" thread every week, but PSA gouges for shipping far more than the worst ebayers, but we pay it anyway, because unlike ebay, we factor that in as part of the cost.

    (3) The USPS does not LOSE money, as said before, they dont make enough to cover the costs of high paying benefits and pensions and for non-essential personnel.

    (4) I bet that return shipping charges from PSA outpace the actual increases of USPS rates for years to come as PSA has to keep grading fees low to compete in the economy, but need to increase revenue at the same time. This practice is going on in virtually every business that employs a "shipping AND handling" fee.

As posted in the locked thread:

"Due to state of the economy, we have decided to preserve the vast majority of the prices from last year. In fact, the only change was a reduction in the Bulk Service category. We have decided to lower the Bulk Service for 100 or more cards (valued under $100 each) from $7 per card to $6 per card."

Yeah, PSA is in it for the profit on shipping... this grading stuff is just gravy. That makes more sense.

If you don't like their shipping costs/methods, then don't use them. Personally, I think it's a fair price, and their shipping has only gotten faster over the past year.

I don't hear anyone saying anything about the cost of grading fees going down. Why not? PSA's grading fees are at their lowest since I've been a member (2005). It seems like the decrease in grading fees have more than offset the increase in shipping costs (which goes up without PSA wanting it to). I remember when I thought $6 per card was a deal, now we're paying $4.25 per card (or less). If I'm subbing 50 cards, that's a savings of $87.50. With that kind of savings, I'm not going to CRY about my shipping costs going up by a couple dollars.

I submit to PSA a lot less than I used it, and the shipping costs are a big reason why. They're outrageous. Sucks to hear they're going up again.

When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
