India 1944 1 Rupee

Concerning the mintmark: there is a large or small B, and also an L mintmark coin. But the B on the coin I have just looks like a dot. Has anyone come across this before? Is it just the small B variety?

I have no other coin to compare, but if you do, or know of a website with some pics please let me know

thanks for your help!

  • These were minted in Calcutta, Bombay and Lahore:

    - no mint mark for Calcutta
    - Bombay issues have a small dot or diamond on the reverse under the ornate (the lotus flower) near the bottom of the coin
    - The Lahore mint used a small "L" at that same position

Hope this helps. Sorry I do not have an image immediately available.
