500th post contest!!! *WINNER- Piman58*

500 posts, and it only took me 15+ months to get here!!! image Time for a giveaway. Since I'm fairly lazy and can't think of anything better to do, we'll make it a "get to know Walter's collection" contest.

The winner will get an assortment of raw baseball cards (1970's and later). There won't be anything terribly valuable, but I'll make it worth your time to post. If you indicate your favorite baseball team along with your guesses, I will try to include as many cards from that team in with your prize as I can.

Rules are simple: there are four questions, and each has a multiplier value. Your score for each question is the amount by which you miss the correct answer (doesn't matter whether you are high or low), times the multiplier for that question. Lowest total score wins. Guesses accepted until 8 PM Sunday 10/3/10. One entry per board member.
I'll post the answers and announce the winner Sunday night. Good luck!

1. How many graded sportscards do I own? (X1)

2. How many of those cards are graded by a company OTHER than PSA? (X2)

3. How many of those cards are MLB HOF rookie cards? (X5)

4. How many of those cards are NOT baseball cards? (X10)

TIEBREAKER QUESTION: I am working on a 1970 Topps BB set, mostly raw with graded stars. There are 720 cards in that set. How many cards are currently in my set?

'Sir, I realize it's been difficult for you to sleep at night without your EX/MT 1977 Topps Tom Seaver, but I swear to you that you'll get it safe and sound.'

And the winner is............Piman58, who made some remarkably good guesses given the limited information he had to work with. Not that he needed to, but he even pretty much nailed the tiebreaker question!!!
The winning score was 44+58+10+20= 132. Second place was jimrad with 236, and third was dboneesq with 252. Correct answers below:

    1. How many graded sportscards do I own?
*672. Over half of them are 1978 Topps cards. I'm trying for a complete PSA graded '78 set- don't know if I'll ever get there!

    2. How many of those cards are graded by a company OTHER than PSA?
*38. All are Beckett graded. I don't have many graded cards after 1978, but most of the ones I do have are either BVG or BGS. I used to submit cards to them a couple years ago.

    3. How many of those cards are MLB HOF rookie cards?
*12. I have one graded RC each of Yastrzemski, Yount, Brett, Carter, Rice, Eckersley, Sutter, Murray, Molitor, Henderson, Ripken, and Puckett.

    4. How many of those cards are NOT baseball cards?
*One! I have a BGS 9.5 '91 Stadium Club Emmitt Smith. I used to have a few more football (and basketball), but I sold them off. I kept the Emmitt because I absolutely love the photo on the card (and because it's not worth enough to bother with selling it).

TIEBREAKER QUESTION: I am working on a 1970 Topps BB set, mostly raw with graded stars. There are 720 cards in that set. How many cards are currently in my set?
    *306 (42.5% complete).

Thanks to all who played, and congratulations to Piman58. PM me your address and I'll send you some free stuff. Obviously you're a big Diamondbacks fan, so I'll keep that in mind when putting your winnings together. image

The cards arrived today. The 76 Schmidt and 74 Hunter fill holes in my raw collections for those years and the 70 Marichal
is an upgrade. All the cards are great!

    Thanks again,
    Charles
