Posting some color images from British proof sets

These came from sets that had nice, natural color toning from the case.

All of the Elizabeth images came from the same set.

It's really tempting to try and remove some of the darker toning but doubtful that I
can do it without screwing up the beautiful colors on some of them.

No idea how they'll grade but I'm going to try and put together a Registry set with all toned coins
if I can find them......

That's a very pretty group, good luck with the submission.
  • Thanks Jeff.

    What does anybody think?

If I use a heavy detergent and am careful might i get the dark crud off without
    screwing up the color?

I know that the crown is going to be no better than maybe PF 63 if I don't do something about it.....

I wouldn't clean a coin with any chemical except acetone - and even then I only use it when some Brit ships me a coin in a PVC holder (as a precaution against further damage). There is always risk of handling damage, to say nothing of what adverse things the chemical will do.

  • Thanks Wybrit. I was thinking only of a detergent; like MS 70, hoping to "conserve"
    the surfaces.

I decided not to do it though; sending as is. If they come back too low I may
    rethink it.

I thought this one had fantastic color -- one of the best I've seen on a British proof. Mac, you have a great eye. image

Thanks. That 6d. was a real steal for someone......and, Goodman's image was much better than HA's.

And CCN, those subtle pastels look fine to me. Coins like these are a major crap shoot with the TPGs anyway, and they're the ones with the loaded dice. image
