1. Can these gold coins be taken out of their containers, or are they stuck in those plastic containers ?
2. The ones I'm looking at from 1988 usually sell around 3,100.00 for 1.85 oz of gold. Is that worth it for the price, or
should I just try to find graded 1oz gold eagles from that year ? So confused.

Proof gold eagles sold by the mint individually and in four coin sets (except 1986 when they only made the 1 oz. and 1987 when they only made the 1 oz and 1/2 oz.) Coins in removeable plastic capsules that can be opened (DON'T).
Four coin raw gold eagle sets currently bringing $3100 plus (Expensive if you are just buying the gold).

When gold and silver move together, it signals the coming end of fiat money.
next summer, or 2012. If not, I'll just keep what little I have. Thanks.

Me too. I think I'm in this waiting game for the long haul too.
I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong.
The idea of putting a gold coin in an IRA (where they have to be held by a 3rd party anyway) is wrong, to me at least, on just about every level imaginable.
Much better to buy unc eagles if you're just looking for gold.
