1980 or 81 Fleer Baseball

Hi, a friend asked me to find out the value of an unopened box (31) packs of Fleer Baseball Cards. Either 1980 or 81. Any info is apreciated. Thanks.

It would be 1981 as Fleer did ot have cards in 1980. I am guessing about $40.00 per box of 36 packs. By the way, 1981 was the first year and they gave 2 bonus packs for 38 total packs.

31 packs is not a full box. I assume it's 1981 baseball (as opposed to 1981 Fleer Star Stickers baseball).

You'd be lucky to get $1 a pack for a partial box like this (prospective buyers would assume that you opened some packs and found it's from the later printings when the tough errors had been corrected).

I'd estimate it sells for $20 to $25.

You can buy a complete full wax box from BBCE for $40. (they did not make 1980 cards)

There will be a code on one of the inside flaps of the wrapper. If you have a box from the first run it might be a bit more valuable due to the massive amount of errors in the set. I can confirm that the code 8245-A contains errors.

1981 Fleer errors/variations do not have near the value as the ones from 1982 Fleer.

The 81 Fleer "Craig Nettles" is one of my favorite cards. I remember collecting this set with my father and trying real hard to find this card. It was going for a lot of money back then.

Well I went and bought the OPENED box for 20bucks. There were 31 packs in the box. I haven't bought any cards in ages so I guess I was re-living doing so with my son around 1991.
So now I'm wondering what "errors" should I be looking for? And................................do you think the GUM is any good...

There are quite a few. I think the most noteable from this set is the Graig Nettles card. The reverse has his name spelled Craig not Graig. Nice buy on the box.

Any good annual baseball card price guide will list all the variations.
Here is a quick link to a list, although it may not be very helpful in figuring out which variation you have in some cases.

Thanks for the link. I happened to have a stack of 82 Donruss on my desk. I checked them for snorts and giggles and had a Randy Lerch error. I may retire tomorrow.

Put the cards with the gum on them in the freezer for an hour or so, drop on a table and it should mostly just crack off.
