Wouldn't be making Boston, but will be in NYC for the Darkside convention in January. That should give me enough time to recouperate from all the summer vacation spending and build-up a numismatic budget again.
Bah! My macro equipment was packed better than i thought, so I ended-up taking a few free-hand shots which turned-out OK.
1773 Mexico 8 Reales, Inverted Assayer / Mint Mark in PCGS 45 plastic. I already own a 1772, so this made a nice addition. You might remember this coin from a few years back when SeaEagleCoins (Larry) posted it on this forum.
Very sharp coins, both of them! You mention that the mintmarks and assayers' initials are inverted. I see they are placed on the coins with the bottom of the letters facing outward from the center. That is true for both coins, correct? Lovely pieces!
That's correct! Both have an inverted assayer and mint mark. After 1773 Mexico City flipped those and continued with the entire legend facing the same way until the end of the portrait series, like this:
