I still don 't understand blocking someone because they ask a stupid question or ask if they can get the cards cheaper. If they are going to give you money for your merchandise that you want to sell I would let them ask all the stupid questions that they like. Also, let them ask about lowering the price. All it takes for you is to respond by typing two letters "no". That is not so difficult and takes about 3 seconds. In this economy you are lucky to have people still interested in spending their extra money on baseball cards. By blocking them because they annoy you by asking stupid questions brings in less customers to your store. Pretty soon you will of blocked all the people interested in buying your cards and will have no one left to sell to. Then you will be on the boards complaining because the hobby is going down the toilet because no one is buying cards anymore.

Those type of bidders aren't interested in spending extra money. Their main concern is making extra money for themselves. Those are the type of bidders who will find some way to scam YOU out of your hard earned money. Did I tell you about the time this buyer sent back two empty PSA slabs to me with signature confirmation?????

Stupid questions don't get people blocked, stupid questions that may leave to neg feedback get people blocked.

I personally have only one person on my bbl but I know it is only a matter of time before I get burnt by someone who already was exposed on this forum.

well Ebay bidder dwiedle is the one who cracked out my cards, and sent me back empty PSA slabs in an attempt to keep my cards and get his money back. I highly suggest adding him, because that to me is one of the worst things you can do.

    Morning,
And somehow after all the threads about this subject you just still don't get it. We are Speaking from experience here, I have over 15,000 completed transactions and Feedback of 5500.

    You should Listen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have learned through paying attention to what I am doing. Almost with out exception, transactions that have ended up with me being Scammed, Neg feedback, Lost card, Threats, or gone south for whatever reason has its start in some sort of derogatory, stupid, defensive, malicious, a$$inine question, or some other contact that raises your Eyebrows. So we choose to mitigate the damage before it happens. I appreciate customers but will not be held hostage by them or spend hours wasting my time over some $5 deal.

And I'm not concerned with putting too many people on my BBL and not having anybody to buy my cards, I don't think that blocking Crooks and Dipwads is affecting my Bottom line one iota !!!!

So bottom line, if the buyer doesn't pass the smell test for WHATEVER reason they hit my BBL faster than you can blink your eyes.

Advice you should heed, as it isn't getting any better.....just worse every day as the Scammers are emboldened each and every day by E-bays collusion and indifference !!

you want to succeed in business? you need a policy, one to live by and ensure that the efforts you invest in your ability to profit don't go to waste.....we maintain the right to deal with who we want to, when we want to and that, my friends, is the best way to avoid complications......remember, have a policy in place and stick to it and you will have no problems.

There are MILLIONS of good buyers on EBAY.

BBLing a few thousand that reveal themselves as potential
problems has ONLY a positive effect on a seller's business.

The voice of experience is speaking to you.

    ........
    .........................

Speaking of ongoing problems, this anecdote is making its
rounds and was posted on the CU precious-metals forum.

"I sell about 30-40 numismatic items a month on ebay. I've been on ebay

since 1999. Ebay was fun when it was new. Now thay have some ridiculous

"Buyer Complaint" where anyone can complain that the item is not as

described and ebay automatically takes their word. I sold a 2006 Buffalo

one ounce 24 carat gold coin to a man in Tuson, Arizona and he claimed it

was SNAD. He said he thought it was slabed. I said noting about slabbing in

the listing, I order these BULLION coins from Dillon Gage in Eddison, Texas

and they are still sealed in the rippled plastic sheets direct from the US

Mint. Gold had dropped about $40 an ounce since the buyer bought this coin

so I figured that he was using me as insurance against a gold drop, so yeah

the most I could loose was the $40 gold decline and I would relist. Much to

my dismay Paypal had taken the money out of my account but what I received

was a $50 gold buffalo gold plated replica marked COPY. There is nothing I

can do because Paypal has proof that the item was returned by the buyer even

though it is not the same coin. I am giving this warning to people that

this feature is grossly misused. Due to this and some other issues, I feel

that I will end my ebay days. It is truly much too taxing on me emotionally

and physically. They are far from being on the side of the seller. My wife

is seriously ill and I thought that some of the gold that I put back during

good times would help us when we needed it. I would of been better off

taking it to the scammers that sets up at motels and run ads in the paper

and pay half of what stuff is worth. At least half is better than zero.

    I hate ebay!!!!!"

I am just giving my opinion. Take it how you will. I agree that blocking potential scammers is a must and maybe if they ask stupid questions that expierience shows will leave to future problems is OK as well. But blocking people because they ask for a cheaper price on a best offer- really?? That sounds like a Simpsons carton with the comic store guy. If you automatically pay the price they are asking without at least trying than you are a sucker. Plain and simple.

There is a difference between making a fair offer, and offering $100 on a Hank Aaron rookie PSA 6. Buyers can look at completed listings and get an idea of what is fair and what is downright stupid!

Low-ball offers is one thing. I usually set an auto-reject number on my BIN listings to handle those immediatly.

However, it's totally another when, a guy uses up his 3 best offers with low-ball offers, then sends an angry email to me telling me that I'm an a-hole for not accepting his low offers.

It's only happened twice, and both times they landed on my BBL.

You may lose a few sales blocking bidders with stupid questions, but in general, using stupid questions as a guideline will in the end be a wash money wise with what you would lose and your hair will be less gray.

My business averages over 150k in sales yearly, most of which are orders in the $100-$200 range, but I can tell you, without doubt, some of the biggest problem customers are ones over a $10 item and you can almost tell its a problem when they start asking stupid questions and making ridiculous requests before they order. Ebay is no different. The only difference is that its a lot easier to block a bidder than to block a customer.

Edited to add some of my own "reasons to add to my BBL"

    1. Bidder asks if your 63 Fleer Roberto Clemente "with creases" would grade out higher than a 6.

    2. Leaves negs because "shipping to high", even though its clearly listed

    3. Tells you up front that he's only buying your set so that he can get the Gem Mint cards without paying top dollar

    4. Leaves a neutral because your 82 Cal Ripken was NOT his RC since he played in 1981

All of the above are true events in my previous ebay career

Each to there own on who and why they should block. When it is your product, time and money on the line, and you have played with 100s of eBay scammers...you will act differently. As noted there are millions of people on eBay, blocking a few hundred that might be problems..is smart.

Every case is different, even your BIN example. If the card always sells for $75 9 out of 10 times and someone has one for $50 OBO, you better not try the OBO as someone else will buy it before you have a chance to get it. What if you really want the item and it is $2 OBO?

  • Problem is that some buyers and sellers have multiple accounts so you never know who your dealing with. You block someone then they can come back under a different id buy something and leave you the negative.I'm so tired of ebay and paypal allowing fraud,as a seller I never had the NSAD return problems when buyers paid with checks or money orders.Any one can buy something new and return the used broken or similar item and receive refund from paypal sight unseen!
