  • Why do you have a sparkler set off in that picture?
  • Is that Homer getting ready to moon the camera?

Hi sorry guys my friend sent me that pic and wanted to know if it was real or not
  • There is no question in my mind that is a real basketball. I've seen quite a few in my day, too.

Whether or not that is Kobe Bryant's signature, I have no idea.

    Does anyone know?

I have very limited experience with Kobe but I'll take a crack...the signature does resemble somewhat an early Kobe signature, however the pictures is not sharp enough to really make an educated guess.

The thing that kind of bugs at me is the end of the signature, or the loop around the 8 and the 8 doesn't look quite right either.

If your looking for an opinion, I'd lean towards no good.

One from ebay for comparison - PSA/DNA

I would put it on ebay for a crazy BIN and then use PSA/DNA's quick opinion service. For the $7.49 charge (plus the eBay listing fees), it is an inexpensive alternative to actually submitting the item for authentication. Of course, there is no guarantee of authenticity given, just a quick opinion as the name indicates...but it would be as good or better than responses on a message board.

Heck, if you wanted to avoid the eBay listing fees, you could just list it as a 7 day auction with an opening bid of $.99 and then cancel the listing after you get your quick opinion. It's not how I would do it, but it's another way.

Another option would be to get a one month subscription to the "Real Autographs" area of psadna.com. link They have examples of real signatures there for you to compare against.

    Anyway...I hope this helps.

  • Save your time and your money. It is not real. For one it looks too deliberate. The K looks completely wrong. I am pretty sure he always starts his b in line with the o, not below it. But the thing that makes me absolutely sure is the #8. He never closed his 8's. They were always open in his old signature.
  • I agreee with the above poster. Although I know nothing about his signature, the 8, where it's dark, was written over 2x and looks too slowly intentionally written, compared to the rest of the quickly written sig.

    +1 for it being fake.

I agree the "k" is WAY too deliberate it was drawn slow and the loop is perfect. See the PSA/DNA Kobe, the loop in the "k" is more of an oval and the lighter tone of ink shows that he draws the loop fast, which makes sense and is the reason it is not a perfect circle. Your friends basketball on the other hand is bold throughout meaning the sharpie was used slowly. The same can be applied to the "8" in the PSA/DNA example it is fast but the other example it is not. 100% fake IMO, sorry.

  • I have to agree with the posters above..the 8 is a dead give away!
