Red Sox Fans in Seattle

So I'm in Seattle over the weekend to catch the Red Sox - Mariners series and let me tell you that there must be 20k+ Red Sox fans at SafeCo field.
Last nights game had 44,000 in attendance and half the place had Red Sox gear on, there was a lot of energy and competitive chants like a college football game.

I've never seen anything like it, is this the case for the "red sox nation" in other cities?

There are very few Mariners fans in Seattle these days. Sad; but true.

There are many fans of the Bosox.

yes the Red Sox fans travel well. Tampa/Baltimore get a boat load of Sox fans.
They do very well at others as well.

    Combo of three things....
    1. Bandwagon Bosox fans
    2. Lack of Mariners fans
    3. Probable frustration of the team...appears they are or have imploded. This most recent debacle with Chone Figgins has really shown that.

when the Sox won it all in 2004, there were fireworks in my (Seattle) neighborhood...literally.

  • I remember watching a late-season game on the MLB package a few years ago where the Sox were in contention and playing in Oakland. Manny Ramirez hit a three-run bomb in the eighth or ninth inning to give the Sox the lead. If you had tuned to that game at that moment and you didn't know what the parks of the respective teams look like, there is no way you would have ever dreamed the game was being played anywhere other than Boston. The place was a madhouse.

so in two weeks, are we Seattle fans or Kansas City fans? I know that no matter what, I wanna sit close to Milton Bradley so I can be close to the fireworks.

I have no loyalty to the Royals, so I'm pulling for the Mariners. Who knows what games Milton will be playing. He's a complete head case.

Last year I took my family to Chicago to see the Red Sox play the White Sox. There was an equal amount of Red Sox fans in attendance. Red Sox nation really travels with this team.

Many probably travel but most are either transplants or bandwagoners.
  • Being a Mariner fan and at the game on Saturday I thought the M's fans stood up well for the home team. The Sox fans do travel well as do Yankee fans, and winning doesn't hurt. More importantly for Seattle, they played dam well against the Sox during the four game series. JMO

At the game today. Good showing by the Mariner fans. Lots of tourist at the game along with B-sox fans and it was a bore until the 8th so it was a pretty mild crowd. Hot too, by Seattle standards, 80+ degrees. Bradley has a safety squeeze hit and rbi in a pinch hitting role in the 8th. For the Mariners a split against Btown is nice. Maybe the fight finally ignited some manhood on the team. Problem is, even if we go 500 we'll still almost lose 100 games!
