Some help with USPS shipping, please...

Alright my situation is I'm selling a $1800 item to a buyer. I provided him a bunch of references so he has agreed to send it gift payment so I don't have to worry about PayPal fees, which is very cool. He wants me to send it USPS Express fully insured with Delivery Confirmation.

I don't know him that well and his e-mails seem a little weird... but I think he's just not very good with computers/email, etc. The whole transaction has worried me a little because just because of the $ amount and how he seems a little "off", but if he wants to pay me I'm fine with making the sale.

I'm sending the item Express, fully insured with Signature Confirmation. My question is, as long as he pays via gift payment, I don't have to worry about this being a scam and getting a charge back, right?

    There is always the chance that a person could say the paypal account was used without their authorization. Someone else can give more detail about it but that is the main concern with the gift option as the seller.

    This is why Paypal fees aren't so bad sometimes. What's your price for peace of mind?

    But with regular PP payment I pay fees and have an equal risk of getting a charge back... I don't see that as being a superior option, unless I'm missing something.

    No -- I posted the item for sale on a website and he contacted me personally.

    When accepting a CC, there is always the chance of a chargeback
    for "unauthorized use."



    A "gift payment" can be charged back for UAU.

    An "EBAY payment" can be charged back for UAU.


    If an EBAY payment has been approved by PP under the
    "seller protection scheme" - and the seller follows the PP
    protocol - the seller is covered against UAU claims.

    There is no such coverage for sellers accepting "gift payments."

    I was hoping you'd show up Storm.

    I confirmed that it would be a gift payment from a bank account, not a CC. Does that matter?

    I guess such a gift-giver could claim that somebody jacked his
    account. PP would not generally be too receptive to such a
    claim, but it is impossible to know for sure what they might
    decide.


    The problem with doing these "gift" deals is that if something
    goes badly, the seller has unlcean hands and has a hard time
    gaining ANY sympathy from PP.

    I'll definitely just take a "regular" payment then and be sure I ship to a confirmed/covered address.
