Crossing from SGC/BVG to PSA Question

I have a few cards that I would like to submit to PSA that are in BVG/SGC slabs currently. Is it best to submit these cards raw or to submit them in their current slab? I am afraid to open them for fear that I get a lower grade than I want from PSA. If I keep them in the slabs and ask that they return them if they do not reach the grade I am looking for, then at least I still have slabbed cards. But if I do this, does PSA seeing what another company graded the card at affect the way that they (PSA) will grade the card? Just looking for some opinions.

    Tom, it's tough to get PSA to cross abcard in another third party grader's holder. Won't say it doesn't happen, but not regularly. Best to crack them out if you can stomach the card possibly coming back a lower grade or possible trimmed etc.

    My experience - no matter which TPG you submit to - is that you're chances for an equal or better grade are better by popping them first and submitting raw. However, if it's highly graded, it takes mucho balls to break them out. I've had crossovers come back from SGC / PSA as trimmed, re-colored, did not meet MG, etc. I think TPG's have a built-in bias against any other TPG slab and will slam it accordingly. Crossovers are a money-maker for TPG's and a money loser for collectors.

    Depending on the value of the card - I would send them in their current holder first. Whatever does not cross, if you feel it is definately the correct grade, crack it and re-submit.

    That is exactly what the grading companies want, more fees.

    Anyone resubmitting a graded card to another company for review has to accept the risk/reward reality. If the cards you are considering are high dollar >$500 cards, I wouldn't do it.

    If its a high grade, expensive card, keep it in holder. If the amount of money the card is worth does not bother you, crack it and send in.

    These are pretty high value items. My 1962 Joe Torre rookie SGC 92 and 1959 Richie Ashburn SGC 88. Will they review the cards before cracking them if I ask that they not crack them if they will be downgraded?
