This site is evil

So says my wife. Been lurking on here for some time now and just been casually collecting sports cards every now again. Well after the A&G thread got me to open a few boxes I decided to go crazy on eBay this week and start picking up a bunch of cards. So far purchased the following,
1991 SC Brett Favre PSA9
1968 Topps Johny Bench PSA6
A couple different Adrian Peterson PSA10 rookies
1984 Topps Dan Marino PSA8
1981 Topps Joe Montana PSA8
1989 UD Griffey Jr PSA10
1982 Topps Ripken JR PSA8
and an assortment of other goodies like Frank Gore autos, Chris Johnson rookies and some more boxes of A&G on the way. As stuff comes in I will throw up some scans throughout the week. The first PSA graded card to show up was this one which is something I have wanted for over a decade.

Figure I will start out with picking up key rookies in decent PSA grades and upgrade them if I can find good deals as time goes on. Thankfully a new job this year making over double what I did at my old job will help with this hobby along w/ a small business I have now buying and selling dork cards AKA Magic the Gathering. Look forward to becoming more active on this forum.

Welcome to the boards. It's a great place filled with a lot of fun people.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
<< <i>Brendan,
Welcome to the boards. It's a great place filled with a lot of fun people. >>
Why are you welcoming a guy that's been here 2 years?
Question is there anyway for me to use my own avatar on here? I don't see a place to upload one or link to one.

Does it matter? The trip is often just as nice as the destination.
Very nice pickups - that's a good looking Montana.
Good luck in the future - the hobby is evil - in that sometimes my ambivalence will get the better of me! Someone used to have in their sig line: there's a thin line between a hobby and insanity.
Well, that's true. That's why I've tried to keep a few things in perspective: a focus and a budget.
Thanx for sharing.

You are right on, I learned a few years ago that it's all about the ride!

Brendan, I believe there's one day a month where you can upload new pics to be used as avatars. I found one I like and have been using it forever, so I'm not sure of the exact details. I'm sure someone in the know will help you out. Otherwise you can contact a moderator or search the site and you should get your answer.
Nice pickups on the cards. And good luck convincing your wife you NEED these things!
Good luck!
Yes, this place can be evil or it can be great. I think it's what you make of it.
Good luck with your collection, you're off to a good start...

<< <i>Yep, it is evil indeed. Was surfing the web 3 years ago this month, happened to stumble across it, and I've thoroughly enjoyed getting back into the hobby ever since. My pocketbook will never be the same
Sounds similar to my story!
My wife was very supportive, and encouraged me, since she thought I needed a hobby. She's even been to every tristar with me here in Houston (once while 7 months pregant and with a 18 month old in a stroller!)
The second big thing that helped get me started is that I found Steve Hart, via these boards. I bought a sampler of 5 packs from him and pulled a 1981 Joe Montana RC.
Then the final whammy is when my father sent me his Nolan Ryan collection that we helped him collect as kids. I just purchased a PSA 9 1970 Ryan earlier this week and will be headed towards the 15-20 in the Basic Topps Ryan Registry as soon as I fill out some of the mid 70's.
Great looking cards there Brendan.
