I can't make out enough of the inscriptions. Too shadowy in the pix.

Don't ask me why, but "Brabant" popped up in my mind when I saw this. I'm not suggesting that's definitely where it came from, but note the similarity of the cross with that of the top coin on this page.

Maybe you can hop from that page to one of the other home pages via those links, and track it down a little more closely.

France or the Low Countries certainly seems about right, in a vague geographic sense. So yeah, "French Belgium" might be a fair description.

PS- Maybe you can find a match for the coat of arms in that shield, which would narrow it down even more.

And maybe Josh@Civitas or somebody else here has the definitive answer. That wouldn't surprise me at all.

Oh, yeah- and I like it. image

  • Rev(top): OMNIS IPITITVS LAVDET DOMINVM? 1512 should be SPIRITVS

I would expect it to be a Double Patard of Charles V, from Brabant, but I can't find any reference for it.

I find the type for Philip(1482-1506) and a close match on the legend, but the date doesn't work.

    DCH is right.

Silver double patard from Brabant in the Lowlands. Issued under Charles V 1506-1555.
