New to the forums! Some questions!

Hey everyone I'm new to these forums but have been a frequent reader on them as of late. This is the best site I've seen in terms of vintage stuff and that's what I like. I collect alot of vintage PSA graded RC's from baseball, football, and some hockey...Also some Mantles and such...I have a few questions on how to spot a fake...Cards like the 1954 Aaron RC how can you spot the fake even if it's graded there's fakes for it. Another thing, my next big purchase will be the 1951 Bowman Willie Mays RC at a PSA 6 or 7 haven't decided yet...Where would be my best bet to look for this and how much are we talking for it..I figured at least $1600 for the 6 but probably a bit more... Lastly, what does VCR mean?

Video Cassette Recorder.
Is anyone else noticing this?

Observant you are...but you are not a jedi yet.

Been there.
It's the only price guide used in Japan.
<< <i>A fake would have more richness because it's newer correct? >>
Just the opposite Billsfan. The real ones have a richer color to them. Also look at the small image of Hank to the left. The fakes are a darker black than the real ones, with less definition to the face. Also, the fakes usually have a spottier, more checkered appearance, kind of like a dot-matrix pattern I guess.
The real ones just have a nice, rich orange look to them compared to the fakes (that I've seen anyway).
Regarding prices on 1951 Bowman Mays'.....PSA 5s seem to go for around $1,200 or so (I'm looking for one of these). I would guess around $1,700-$2,000 for a PSA 6.

Very nice collection!
Welcome and good luck in your quest for RCs.
I don't collect RCs and am really only doing 2 vintage sets - don't be a stranger and I'm looking forward to what you pick up.
