A look at the 1970 Topps Baseball Set.

I've never been really familar with this set. I did some VCP research into it last night, and came up with some interesting stats. The most interesting was that based on the market now, 238 of the 720 cards can be had in PSA 8 for less than the grading fee. That is exactly 1/3 of the set. I'm assuming a grading fee (incl shipping and other costs) of $6. I didn't look closely, but I bet the number jumps to over 400 cards if you go less than $8 or $9.

Interesting.

I just offered 82 cards in PSA-8 on ebay with most of the bids starting at $4.99 - including some low pops. The results:

    - 4 went unsold

    - 27 went for the min bid of $4.99

    - 11 got two bids and sold for $5.24

    - 11 sold in the $6.05 - $6.55 range

    - 8 between $7 & $8

    - 5 brought in $8 - $10

    - 8 more popular cards sold between $10.49 & $15.50

Cards that brought in some decent money........

    240 Fergie Jenkins $19.09
    542 Brown Bat Cklist $20.65
    307 WS Game 3 Agee $23.00
    536 Mike Kekich $42.88
    468 Koosman A.S. $79.00
    469 McDowell A.S. $173.20

Total sales for 82 cards (78 sold) - $837.94. Some quick math - 3 cards sold for $295 (35% of total sales) - To put that into perspective - 4% of the cards sold brought in 35% of the money. The low pops obviously helped to boost sales.
