Collectors insurance thoughts...

I thought i'd engage over the phone with the "collectors insure" company prior to moving forward with any decision.
They were able to answer all my questions however it was a very one way Q&A, thank you and hang up call.

I did not walk away with a warm and fuzzy feeling from the underwriter I spoke with, any thoughts or prior experience with collectors insurance?

How many of you have opted to go with your current home insurers (if they offer collectible insurance).
Unfortunately Allstate does not cover collectibles in my case.

From what I understand with this company collectors insure, you will need to provide photographs/scans and an itemized listing for any claims, any 1 item over $5k in value will need to be disclosed to the insurer's at time of purchase and at the initial sign up of your policy.

Ultimately I'd like a checklist of items I need in order to %100 guarantee that I can submit a claim in case of a loss without any risk.

Photo's, running inventory list, receipts from purchases....am I missing anything else?

What I am unclear of is how do you establish proof of ownership, beyond the very obvious photo's and self written inventory list, It just seems very unclear and risky.

I apologize for the long winded question...

My first question is what are you insuring from? Are you concerned about theft or fire? You may be better off investing in a sturdy safe, preferably hidden.

Insurance from theft, fire, flood at destination of where the items are stored.
All small items are stored at the deposit box at the bank.

I'd feel better having an actual insurance policy and keeping everything at home in gun safe.

I forgot to mention that collectors insure will also act as my insurance policy for firearms I store at home in my safe.

It just seems like a unclear process of what needs to be documented.

    collectinsure

I have not heard any horror stories.

Premiums are cheap and they pay legit claims.

    ............

Hidden - concrete encased - safes are the best insurance.

You're the only person who benefits from keeping detailed records of everything you're paying to protect. Keep all receipts and a detailed list of what you have along with serial numbers for the cards and guns. Pictures of what you have and how it's stored won't hurt either. If you have to make a claim, or file a police report, you hand over a list detailing everything you lost. The more information you can give the easier the claim process will be, and if it was a theft the list will be of great use to the police. Keep a copy of all your records someplace else.

They paid out Dad's claim quickly and easily. Back in 2004ish, a $350 bobblehead was broken (I believe a frame on the wall above it fell) and he provided pics, a ebay item number to one that sold at the same timeframe and they paid out the claim pretty quickly.

I"ve never had to provide a list or photos. I have 70k in coverage and they've never asked for anything

to clarify my policy is with collectibles insurance agency out of Maryland, not collect insure

I have about $250 K in coverage. I gave them a list of sets, unopened stuff and a general idea of what I have. I do take pics of all my stuff for backup in the event that I need to provide proof in the event of a loss. Also, I have always kept all receipts from auction houses when I buy things. Finally, the PSA inventory and registry are excellent ways to prove ownership. I also use collect insure---I just got my renewal and it's about $1,000 per year for the coverage.
