Modern collectors ?

When collecting modern cards who do you go with PSA or BGS? Why do you go with them? I wanted to start collecting Ovechkin cards because he is my sons favorite player and it would be fun to collect with my son. I see a lot more graded by BGS on ebay. Are BGS graded cards more popular with the modern collector? Thank you in advance for any help.

If you look at realized prices on Ebay, it seems as though a lot of modern collectors prefer (and pay big premiums) for BGS 9.5 and 10.

an answer you will hate - it depends. A 9.5 with a 9 sub often doesn't carry the premium of a psa 10 from what I've seen. And it depends on population to a degree - a good majority get sent to BGS, so if there are a slew of 9.5's and a handful of psa 10's, sometimes PSA sell for better.
Looking for rare Randy Moss rookies and autos, as well as '97 PMG Red Football cards for my set.
  • i found more modern cards go to bgs.the younger collector tend to collect modern and i dont believe you have to join a club to sub them.
  • BGS has a superior holder, subgrades and doesn't require a membership. Modern collectors tend to go with BGS with their rookie card autographs as BGS grades the card and the auto in one slab. BS also has that one extra Pristine grade that typically brings in a ridiculous amount of money dependent on the card. The negative with BGS is their registry is set back a few years and will likely not catch up with PSA unless new collectors build them up.

BGS is better suited for younger collectors.

  • BGS 1952-current and you cant go wrong.
  • i personally prefer the look of modern cards in psa holders! vintage cards i think look better in sgc holders! i dont like bgs holders at all.. but the 9.5 and 10s definitely bring higher prices..
    who dey!

looking for 1964 topps baseball psa graded 7+
  • I'm building my sets on the PSA Registry, so modern or vintage I use PSA. My player runs I have on a spreadsheet. So I collect PSA and SGC for that. I have some BGS cards, but I submitted to them early in their existence. I thought they graded too harshly and decided not to submit to them again. I do like their holders though.
