Just a thought about scanning cards - epecially graded ones

Scanning cards it such a tedious process and then uploading to photobucket just gets tiresome..

I am off to dinner.....

Anyone have a easier way, or can at least share some of there efficiency techniques?

I always say I am adding 20 cards today to photobucket, or at least my hard drive and I never get past 4 or 5.....

juss sayin....

thanks

I don't mind uploading a lot of cards, especially if they're awesome like these. BTW, Megatron shot down the ball Jr hit in the card...

I can't help you with the tediousness of it. It is what it is. However, I always center my cards as perfect as I can get them and I have a nice, clean, black background with a black border or nothingness surrounding the card. I think that is key for having a sharp scan.

I know it is tedious, but once I sit down and start doing it, I actually don't mind it. I just put on a little Amos N Andy old time radio show in the background and I'm good to go.

Gotta be a faster scanner out there than the all-in-one I have that doesn't cost a fortune! My suggestion is to play a little Full Tilt Poker while scanning.

To help me center cards I use another graded card against the bottom of the scanner glass. (BGS cards work better as PSA cards have the little mold thing in the middle.) With a graded card you just push it against the graded card and with a non-graded place it a little off. It is easier to center a non-graded card a little off a graded case, then say a quarter of an inch or so off the bottom of the scanner. (As scanners usually miss the first 1/8 inch).
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

There is a bulk uploader function in photobucket where it connects to your computer and you just click whatever scans you want uploaded. It uploads about 10x faster then doing 1 by 1.

if possible, write an action in photoshop for anything you repeat constantly.
If photobucket has an ftp option like imageevent does it's a whole lot faster than simple uploads thru a javascript uploader.

i made a frame/jig for my scanner for each type of psa holder. its made out of thick poster board (the kind with styrofoam in it). used an exacto knive to cut it nearly the size of my scanner bed, then cut out the insert for the holder. i then place the frame on the scanner, insert card. do a quick scan to make sure is square. then tape it down. then i use the saved scan settings that i have for each holder. check to make sure the crops are correct with another quick scan. once fine i am able then to just keep scanning card after card. all with the same settings and crops.

what sucked was that i attempted to load the scanner software to my new windows 7 machine but it donest work with it. i can scan but i dont have the save functions and repeat scan functions i had before. so needless to say the scanner generally remains with down in the basement with an XP machine.

for me the tideous part is renaming the files to match the certs. and even worse is the upload to psa. i dont do too much to photobucket other than for stuff that i post on the boards. but yesterday i uploaded about 25 images and it didnt take too long.
