Trimmed card at a show

I just bought a couple of common 1952 Topps Yankees cards for my collection and when I got home one of them was trimmed by a lot. I should of checked before I actually bought them. I usually carry around commons from all vintage years to do a quick check but I was in a hurry when I left and forgot them. (my fault on that one) I went back to show the dealer and he took them back and gave me a 1953 Topps Billy Martin instead. So this story has a happy ending (not that type of happy ending). Has this ever happened to anyone else? He did play stupid and asked how did I know it was trimmed. When I showed him the difference between the two cards he had no choice but to agree. It was off so much he could not even say that it may be a miscut.
