The lower left corners on both are dinged. Assuming that the guy's "vending" story is true, they may have come out of the vending box that way. The one on the right may have been the end card in the vending box, hence the discoloration and extra damage.
That being said, some sellers will try to equate pack/vending "fresh" with "mint," but we all know that it doesn't work that way.
A CARD SHOP owner, not a some teenager, is trying to convince me these are not only MINT but vending quality MINT. >>
Yes, both would be considered VENDING MINT here:
In the Bizarro world of "Htrae" ("Earth" spelled backwards), society is ruled by the Bizarro Code which states "Us do opposite of all Earthly things! Us hate beauty! Us love ugliness! Is big crime to make anything perfect on Bizarro World!". In one episode, for example, a salesman is doing a brisk trade selling Bizarro bonds: "Guaranteed to lose money for you". Later, the mayor appoints Bizarro No. 1 to investigate a crime, "Because you are stupider than the entire Bizarro police force put together". This is intended and taken as a great compliment.
If he's trying to convince you, and you're still not sure, then perhaps you may not want to be buying raw cards altogether. If the point was to demonstrate that the store owner is off his rocker, then you're fine.
The most generous assessment I can make is that the one on the left is EX-MT, and the one on the right is VG-EX. I probably would not take the one on the right if it were offered to me for free.
So I guess my answer is no.
