Is this 1954 Aaron real?

I am not the seller. I am looking to buy this card. What is you opinion?

    It's got an older PSA flip, and it's difficult to tell how the edges of the holder are, but the card seems to look good.

    If you value physical condition more than centering, I'd say it looks like a pretty nice card.

    Real. Nice shape too. It present very well even with the OC.

    The VCP guys may be able to track the cert number's history of sales.

    Looks like a nice card to me and I don't see any red flags. I measured the centering side to side and even if you re subbed it I dont think you could do better than a 6 NQ.

    Thanks for everyones reply. Jeff could you please explain what you meant, I don't understand. Why would I re-sub it? Its already high as an 8. So are you saying if I did it would come back as a 6? I am just trying to learn.

    He means a 6 is the highest you could get without the "OC" (off center) qualification on the card.

    bigjaco is correct. If the card was re graded and you didnt want the O/C (off center) qualifier you could get them to grade it as a straight 6 (No qualifier). So if I was looking to buy the card I would look at what the 6s are selling for to decide what I would pay. Then you have to decide if you would pay a premium becuase the corners are graded as an 8 but since it is off center you may want not to pay a premium. Some people like centered cards and dont care how sharp the corners are and others like sharp corners and centering is not important. It is for you to decide.

    Straight 6s sell for about $1000 on average.

    Thanks for the explanation, it makes sense now. For this card the seller wants $1,300. So thats $300 premium.

    I would say to take a deep breath and slow down a little. You seem to be somewhat new to the graded cards, and there will always be this card in this grade available. Take some time to learn what you are really after and spend your $1000 wisely.
    The best pitch to start a hitter off with is always strike one.

    When I was in the market for a PSA 6 Aaron, I considered that one. The seller won't take $1k for it, I already asked.


    Personally, I kinda like the 8 oc one you first posted, but I tend to value "absence of damage" higher than centering when it comes to older cards like this.

    Here is a copy of mine for comparison. I paid a premium for the centering as that is what I look for. Good luck with your quest. Enjoy the search.

    I have a 1954 Hank Aaron rookie in a PSA 6. I will take $1,000 PayPal gift for it (All Star Cards is offering $950, so I consider that the wholesale price - and they don't charge fees!)

    I don't mind OC cards if the price were really right - tho I have to say - over the years I've gotten more centered oriented - so I would probably like a really nice centered 6 over a badly OC 8.

    Just to clarify - the reference to taking a PSA 8 OC and asking for NQ.

    The reference to an 8OC being a 6 is a REGISTRY Rule and not a grading rule.

    If one sends in a card that will command an 8 and is OC - and if one asks for NQ - the "centering" will determine the grade - thus an otherwise 8 quality card could come back as low as PSA 3.

    So using "CENTERING" criteria, as such, on an otherwise 8 quality card, the following grades will be given:

    75/25 on the front: PSA 7
    80/20 on the front: PSA 6
    85/15 on the front: PSA 5 (PSA 4 same criterior but moot since we're looking at an 8 quality)
    90/10 on the front: PSA 3

    I'm basing this on grading criteria - not sure how closely they adhere to this - just wanted to clear up the often used misconception that - in general - a card drops 2 grades for OC; that's a Registry Rule.

    Robmerrill,
    Bobbyw8469's card is about as good as you will do in a 6. If you are serious about this purchase you should go for it. It has nice appeal for a 6. I'm thinking this comes down to you either want to buy the Aaron or you don't want to buy one at all. I'm not trying to sound rude; but it's not like we're searching for the T206 Doyle variation here.
