I've seen worse, but I still get pissed everytime I see s/h for 1 card at anything above $4 for domestic. $6? Who is this a-hole kidding?

95% of the packages I receive come via USPS. USPS picks up packages from your mailbox and you can either put stamps on them at home or print out with the exact shipping charges from stamps.com. There should not be any fuel surcharge embedded in s/h charges. The cost of a bubble mailer plus the ~$1.35 that it costs you to mail 1 card almost anywhere on the east coast.... I'm sorry but that doesn't get anywhere close to $6. Some sellers make all their margin on BS shipping charges instead of on the cards themselves. Thats not cool.

Doesn't bother me anymore. If you don't want the card, don't buy it.
I've bought and sold plenty on Ebay. Bottom line right now with Paypal charges and Ebay's 6% final value fee, sellers are getting raped on fees. God Bless him if he can get six bucks for shipping.

I agree with the idea of consider the shipping cost when setting your bid. Let ebay deal with the shipping gougers.

Please give us the details of this "rural area" where you live that charges $6 for shipping a 3.5 ounce bubble mailer. does it involve a horse and carraige? the only thing more surprising than ridiculously high s/h charges from ebay sellers are the people on CU boards who defend them.

Secondly, the seller is probably assuming the card will go for a certain amount. I have no idea what that is for this card, but if he thinks it's in the $50-100 range, that's $2.25 insurance from USPS right there which makes the S&H a reasonable $3.75 for sending a slabbed card.

I understand the frustration. There has been times where I have been looking for a particual card for a long time, I finally find it on ebay, the price is reasonable, but the shipping is outrageous. I either bite the bullet or choose to pass, but at least I have the choice.
As a seller, I usually offer free shipping or really low shipping. That's just part of my business model.

Really not bad shipping rates. Notice the shipping includes insurance. The seller usually gets strong prices for graded cards, so he is probably expecting that here.

as I think it has been said before. if the seller states the S/H cost in the auction just figure that in with your highest bid.
Then give the seller 5 stars across the board if he delivers in a timely manner and in said condition.
with ebays new we make the seller bend over rules, it is no wonder more and more sellers are going to insuring everything they ship and also charging more for shipping to cover it, it is also difficult to guess what a card will end up at in an auction format.
so let's figure this: list card starting at 9.99 + 5.00 S/H plus pic of front & back of 1 PSA graded card. .40 cent list fee.
card sells for 100.00 dollars + 5.00 s/h . Ebay gets 9.00 + paypal gets 3.30. total fees so far for seller 12.70
Seller goes and mails card 20 cent mailer + (the free tape & ink & bubble wrap that walmart gives away NOT) + 2.25 insurance + DC 80 cents + 1.39 first class mail total 4.64 to mail it. total out of pocket for seller 18.34 not counting time + gas ( everyone can't wait for the postman to come and pick up the mail plus you are supposed to have at least 1 priority package for them to pick up your mail)
So in the end 105.00 -18.34 the seller gets $86.66. Then the seller gets slammed on stars because on the package it only shows them paying $4.44 to ship it.
if the card only sells for 10.00 + 5.00 s/h. The seller nets a whopping $8.82 out of the $15.00 dollar card if he insures it.Then the seller gets slammed on stars because on the package it only shows them paying $3.94 to ship it.
so my question is I list a 1963 Topps PSA 8 Mickey Mantle start bid at .99, how much do I charge for S/H & INS. to break even at the post office ? please pretend you are the seller and not some flea market bottom feeder (looking for a 63 Rose RC in the 5 for 1.00 box of cards) and then asking hey if I buy a lot can I get them 6 for a 1.00 (meaning I will spend $2.00). before you answer!

That is for pickups scheduled by appointment.
You can load your mailbox with regular mail - at the risk of
aggravating some carriers - without making an appointment.
I use a big mailbox and a crate on the side. This is not a good
idea, obviously, unless you are in a secure area.

As long as the weight of each package is under 13 ounces or less. Over 13 ounces has to be given to a clerk at the PO. At least that's how it is for me here in N.Y.C.

That is certainly the official policy.
But, many/most carriers are willing to accept larger parcels
from senders that are known to them.
I have never had a large parcel rejected at the curb; even
by relief carriers that don't know me.
I feel the pain of the rural/country area sellers were their mailbox is next to road 100 feet from the house.

I wish that were the case here. I've had the same carrier for years, and we've become pretty friendly since I take very good care of him at Christmastime, and he has told me he would gladly take the larger parcels from me a the curb, but I would most likely be getting them back in a day or two. He has a vehicle, so I know he isn't just BS-ing me to avoid lugging heavier stuff back to the PO.

Bingo. I can't understand why many bidders don't factor shipping into their total bid. It should all be about the total delivered price.

Different sellers have different types of offers when it comes to shipping. In this case, the benefits are found when buying multiple lots and the insurance is free. For someone who is looking to buy a handful of cards, someone trying to complete a 1980 set maybe, the shipping policy could be a good thing. For someone who is looking for a single Dale Murphy PSA 10 1980 Topps card and nothing else, this may not be the most appealing offer. In which case, you move on and look elsewhere or as someone mentioned factor the shipping into your bid price. This is my card and one of a number of cards that I sent to Brent. I don't mind having my cards being consigned under this policy. Seems fair enough to me.
Now, for those people who dont buy 500 mailers at a time, their cost is usually 33 cents each. Postage for the mailer is $1.22 unless you want DC, then it adds a buck for a total of $2.22 for ONE card. So we're already up to $2.55, not counting your time, gas, penny sleeve, hard cover, etc. Granted those costs are minimal, maybe only a dime depending on how many auctions you run, but still. Then you add up the fees, 30 cents for listing, 6% FVF, 3% paypal fee. On just a small $10 item, your combined fees can run $1.50, because paypal doesnt give you the shipping costs free of fees. So out of a $10 sale, the shipping and fees will cost over $4.00, more if the item is insured.
I ate at CraftSteak in Vegas last year, paid $165 for a meal. Yes, thats a lot, it is after all just FOOD, but I ate there, paid the money, enjoyed the meal and experience. When buying on ebay, everyone needs to take the same approach. Figure shipping costs into your bid. Nothing gripes my %$#^% more than to have someone get a card that "book" is $200, yet win an auction for $20 and then complain because the guy charges $5.95 for shipping. I mean really. Would you not have paid $25.95 for that card at a show or was the extra buck or two a dealbreaker?

I figure that my time, effort and labor do count when packaging an order safely and securely, and i enjoy going to the post office twice a week, its not out of my way and im on excellent terms with everyone who works there. Comes in handy when something goes awry or you need some assistance. Amazing how well you get treated when they know you and your friendly and courteous with them.
Only had 2 or 3 instances where i needed some help with issues, but they were fantastic and it paid to have a good relationship with the folks at the P.O.
If someone is charging $6 for shipping i wont bid as much or if its a best offer i will lower my bid. The less money in ebays pocket the better, especially given how they treat smaller sellers these days.

I have that problem here. Also, I have to go to a clerk to mail media or foreign, which is always 7-8 packages a week.
But by going to the PO I can use the machine with I am very fast on. I put the label on the last one while the next one is printing....so I am always waiting on the machine. It means about 30 secs. a package instead of a couple min. if I did it at home. Times that by 40 packages and it save a lot of time.
I try to save a little in postage by buying discount postage on ebay. (You can buy stamps at 80-90% face all day long and sometimes cheaper). Plus I recycle what I can. It helps offset a little, but not much.

I contacted the seller and he says that he is not a store and is just a part-time seller. He does have less than 100 feedback. Ironically he was selling a new Omega Seamaster watch, which goes for over $1000 and the S&H was only $15.
What feedback should I leave?

I guess you are talking about PSA graded cards? if the slabs are damaged I would ask for a full refund and send the cards back or ask for enough money to have the cards reslabbed as long as neither card was damaged, or if these are raw and there was no damage to the cards, I would either leave No feedback at all or leave positive feedback but leave low stars on S/H charges.
For 215 + 12 S/H, the seller should have at least provided insurance & delivery confirmation. Insurance + signature con. should have only been 8.00 to 10.00 bucks and that is what he promised.
I just sold a card that I under estimated the final price on, it ended at 350 with S/H of 3.00, you better believe it is going out in bubble mailer or priority box, with signature confirmation + insurance. figure S/H going to run me about 8 to 10 bucks (but I am happy), I just hope the buyer pays & gives me 5 stars across the board. Signature confirmation is not required until the price hits 250.00.
your seller will learn real quick about DC & signature confirmation, when someone claims they never received the item & gets the product & their money back to boot.
Positive or negative or neutral feedback: received cards but damaged holders due to poor packaging + overcharged for shipping your choice. JMHO
