I thought I would start a fresh thread.

I won two Taler pieces, the Salzburg being on my wish-list for some time as it is somewhat evasive.

Austria, Salzburg. Attractively toned, harder to find pieces from this ruler/era.
1735, Leopold Anton Eleutherius, Freiherr von Firmian(1727-1744) Taler, .
DAV-1241; KM-329; Probszt-2145.
Description: Madonna and child over arms. Reverse: Saint seated left with arms.
NGC graded AU-58.

Austria, (Hall Mint). Rainbow toned classic design.
Archduke Ferdinand (1564-1595) Taler, No Date.
DAV-8095.
Description: Crowned bust right holding sword and orb. Reverse: Crowned arms in Order chain.
NGC graded AU-58.

That mother of pearl blue toning is awesome. I lost my only bidded lot by 500$

I won the Saxony 1825 S Pfennig in PF65, and surprisingly the 1855 GB Penny in 66RB.

The 1 Pfennig can always be questioned as to its "proofness", as there really don't seem to be any records saying that proofs were made for specific years and denominations. However the person that looked at it for me thought it looked proof, and in any event with a mintage of only 25,000 for the regular issue it was worth adding to my German States minors.

Even more surprising was I did not win the Anne Pattern 1/2d (was the underbidder), the early copper has been going pretty cheap so far this year, I guess that's at an end. I also won some misc. 20th C. gold lots yesterday at near melt.

And I forgot I won the 1825 Laureate Head Shilling also:

Those are great looking pieces Jim and Zohar.

I had them in my bookmarks in case, to jump in if somebody went to sleep or something.

But hey!.. window shopping is a lot of fun too

2 for 2!

1) 1779 8 Escudos Potosi (Bolivia), NGC 63. A rare date in an INCREDIBLE grade!

2) 1630 8 Reales (Royal) Potosi (Bolivia), NGC AU 55. This, historic and first dated Royal issue from all of South America is rare AND important!

Nice wins guys. Those are some big time pieces being discussed......look forward to seeing all the pics.

I went 0 for 0 this time around. Some beautiful coins, but nothing that kept me up at night in anticipation. I think I will pursue a lot or two in the Kuenker auction in Germany now that the euro is at a more respectable level.

Marc, the 1735 is a tricky one to find original and/or MS. This is what I wanted and I actually think price was below market. The Ferdinand caught my attention given the coloring, and the variety which I do not have DAV-8095.

The pfennig looks 110% proof to me. The two talers are gorgeous and I hope that a better image of the 1855 penny will reveal its beauties. Great scores guys.
