  • Truly a superstar in every way . Great player , great person . Loved to play and the unfortunate injuries
were from playing hard . Never associated with steriods . A player young people could and should look up to .

It was a pleasure watching that sweet swing

The Kid was the mainstay of the hobby for a long long time. Too bad he got hurt so much, kinda like Mantle, minus the WS wins I guess.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

My first year in the hobby was 1989.. when Griffey's rookie cards came out. It's still shocking to me that he's "old." That means that I'm getting old!

First ballot Hall of Famer, +95% of the vote.
    My Giants collection want list

WTB: 2001 Leaf Rookies & Stars Longevity: Ryan Jensen #/25
  • Wow! Thought he'd tough it out thru the end of the season. Maybe it wasn't entirely his choice? Either way farewell to the greatest player of the 90's.

He was the first sports hero for my children. Playing Nintendo 64 Ken Griffey Jr Baseball with them when they were very young will always be a memory. They cared about baseball because of him. I wish he would have been able to break Bonds HR record before he retired! (Sigh)!
  • I Still have his candy bar wrapper from 1989 "KEN GRIFFEY JR BAR" really great memories!
  • I loved Ken Griffey Jr, he brought the city of Seattle alive with his energy, enthusiasm and love of the game that made him the best athlete we have ever seen. Here are a few HR tickets I have when I could afford season tickets back in the day. The ARod ticket was career homerun 318 and the other with him is HR number 337. Great memories.

I am assuming with the blemish of steroid generation/era of potential HOF inductees mr Ken Griffey JR will shatter the voting ballots in his first year of eligibility.
%100 vote, I am calling it right now....see you in 5 years.

Put $20 on the line and come find me when he comes up. He will NOT get 100%.

Wow, sorry to see him retire.

I hope his name never fades, he's truly a great.

He'll make the first ballot but won't get 100% of the vote. He was one of the most natural gifted players ever. That is pretty much unarguable.

Okay lets wake up and smell the real coffee that's being brewed. How many voters are there? Like 400. How many people anywhere in the world are racist in a group of 400. I will bet Yankee Stadium that he will not get 100% of the vote. There are still some old crusty voters that take this into account every year and simply do not vote. I think it's a network of about 5-10 guys. They make sure someone leaves a great one off of at least 1 ballot. Quite simply====If Ruth, Williams, Aaron and Mays did not do it no one will. I think at least one of those guys was left off of 20 ballots. Let me think like some of these voters................Willie Mays- He hit 660 HR, above .300 average, great throwing arm, roamed CF maybe the best of all time, 2 time MVP, 20 something All Star games, did I say 20 something, twice hit 50+ HR's, over 3000 hits///Oh and by the way 3 straight stolen base titles.======And a voter says " I don't think he quite makes it." HOLY SH*T.

100%?? That's just silly talk there... nobody will ever get 100%, not even the prized Derek Jeter when he retires, and he's expected to beat the (Ripken/Gwynn) 2007 attendance record of 75,000+ for the induction ceremony in Cooperstown.

    Here are the top 10:

    Tom Seaver: 98.84%
    Nolan Ryan: 98.79%
    Cal Ripken, Jr.: 98.53%
    Ty Cobb: 98.23%
    George Brett: 98.19%
    Hank Aaron: 97.83%
    Tony Gwynn: 97.61%
    Mike Schmidt: 96.52%
    Johnny Bench: 96.42%
    Steve Carlton: 95.82%

Please tell me where you think Griffey belongs on that list...

By the way, in 2010 there were 539 ballots cast, and you need 75% of the votes in order to be inducted.

Don't get me wrong, Griffey is a first-ballot HOFer, but I doubt he cracks 90%.

I would take Jr. over Gwynn
  • jeffcbayjeffcbay Posts: 8,951 ✭✭✭✭
630 HRs will work heavily in his favor. His problem was the injuries. He had such high potential, but potential doesn't help... otherwise Bo Jackson would be in both HOFs.
  • Where's the pujols fans running in to announce that Pujols will get 110% of the votes on the first ballot ;-)

    just kidding!

Griffey, Jr. should get first ballot with ease, and will not get 100%. I agree with the above posters that no player will get 100%.

Griffey only has 3 years in which he appeared in the postseason and 1 MVP. I'm guessing some voters aren't going to give him a free pass on that. He has been and should've even moreso been the face of baseball. One of the all-time heroes of the game. One of the few that come through clean throughout the steroid era.

Such a sweet swing... from what I heard his quick natural swing came from hitting whiffle balls as a kid in MLB stadiums while his Dad worked. Found that pretty interesting.

Jr was one of the greatest players I ever saw play. I was a freshman in college when he busted onto the scene, wow am I feeling old right about now. I think he made one of the best catches I've ever seen in Yankee stadium. I believe it was his rookie year. He had that huge smile on his face after he made the catch running back to the dugout. He was a kid just playing the game he loved. Priceless!!!

I'll put another $20 against you on this one. He won't get 100% but he'll get a lot more than 90%.

    Tabe

p.s. Both bet offers are null-and-void if Griffey somehow ends up in a steroid scandal.
