Is there a premium for the first psa 10

I was wondering if there is a premium for a card that is the first to be graded psa 10... like would the first 89 upper deck griffey sell for more than one slabbed last week? and there even a way to prove if it was the first 10.?

I would say if the slab said it was the first graded 10 it would sell for a premium. I would think there
would be people who would be into collecting first graded cards. To each his own.

Hi - I have some of those "first card to be graded a 10" cards. IMO I always thought there was something special about owning the first card that was graded and slabbed a psa 10. However none of the slabs that are population 1 or first to end up a 10 in a sub say "first to be graded a 10" on the label. I am sure PSA has a way to authenticate that cert# blahblahblah is the first example to be graded a 10 in their database. I guess it would be really cool in the future of the population report to have such information. To keep track until something like that comes along I just put a "First to be graded a 10." in the user comments on the cards. If I were to sell some of these cards I wouldn't get premium unless it was still pop 1. There is no way to prove it is the first if you graded 10 examples and say 9 examples come back psa 10s. Also I would like to add that if someone were to sell a card saying it was the first example unless its a pop 1 card I won't pay premium for it.

If nothing else, it would be nice to be able to see the "first graded 10" designation when the cert. number is searched.

I believe GAI noted the first cards to have a certain grade. Didn't seem to do much for them.

That is correct. The concept never caught on.

PSA should stamp 1/1 on the backs of the slabs of the first 10s.

Or even better, the front of the slab could be a refractor!

Or maybe a swatch of the grader's shirt can be embedded into the slab!!

GAI first graded 10 vs PSA first graded 10 is like comparing apples and oranges. Since PSA hasn't introduced this concept there really isn't a way to tell if it would bring in premium sales or not. I am curious what the outcome would be if they did introduce it though. I am curious how much the first example PSA 10 of say a 82 Topps Cal Ripken Jr. RC would go for or a first 84 Mattingly Donruss card would go for (if it could be proven it was the first of course). I wonder...

Or they could cut it up into 30 pieces, slab them, and then more people would be able to enjoy owning part of a First Graded 10. Then you could corner the market by trying to collect all 30 pieces.
