Any Luck with resubmitting PSA 8's to get something higher?

Please share your experiences.

I wonder if one can go from a PSA 8 to a PSA 9 or 10.

A really nice PSA 8 in the pre-half grade era might get a PSA 8.5 at least in the half grade era. How does one know if a card was graded in the PSA pre-half grade era? Any serial number indications?

I always look for the card, not the grade. I have bought PSA 8's before because they looked perfect or at least looked like a PSA 9. When a PSA 8 is $50 and the PSA 9 version $300, it was a no brainer to wait for a nice PSA 8 example to come along. I did that with the Paul Molitor rookie. Its a PSA 8, but its perfect in every way except for slight off centering (better than 60-40, but not exactly 50-50). No smudge either.

I have just been looking at some cards I want from ebay recently. I put them on "watched items" ready to pull the trigger. Have you guys bought some really nice PSA 8's and got grade bumps upon resubmission from either PSA or BGS??

  • I have gone from a PSA 8 to a PSA 10.
Granted it was on a modern card (early 90s), and before PSA went to the half-point system.

Yes, I have one submitted three PSA 8s that I had cracked out of their holders. Two came back as 8s, one came back as a 9.

Pre half grades, alpha grade and numerical grade on same line of flip:

Since half grades came to be, numerical grade on line under the alpha grade:
