I have a couple empty Billy Beer cans from the 70s. My Dad gave me his old beer can collection (thanks Dad, lol). They're still pretty cool cans, all opened from the bottom, so the tabs are still in tact. There were a couple Iron City cans that were Super bowl Commemorative.

That is seriously a cool 12 pack. WOW!

I had an empty can but that 12 pack is awesome.

    Love it!

No offense to the other Carter thread but I like this one better.

I still have a four pack of Casey's Lager Beer that features ballplayers on the can. I think the players are Whitey Ford, Monte Irven, Duke Snider and one other guy.

I had to look them up on eBay because all I could remember was 1990's. Found a listing and the date they say is 1997.

Sorry HUN, this thread is legit, no saving needed.

Now back to day 2 in the year of Billy Carter.

Kind of an awkward moment here. Billy appears with Merv thinking that Merv is getting him ready to appear on one his game shows. When Merv drops the news that Billy isn't really Wheel of Fortune material and most definitely not good enough to be on Jeopardy. Billy smiles politely until he figures out what truly is going on and ends up storming off the set.

Billy ended up going on the Price is Right but got confused playing the cliff hanging yodeling game and came home with nothing.

Although not an avid reader for things other than comic books at the gas station, Billy used his celebrity status to get a major book deal with a six figure advance from McGraw-Hill. While the book did not do well commercially in sales it became a major hit with the Ivy league elite type readers. Many thought it would win a Pulitzer Prize but was just edged out by Alex Haley's Roots as best work in nonfiction for the year.

Years later when it was discovered that much of Haley's work had been stolen or plagiarized, Billy demanded to have the Prize awarded to him as his book was clearly written by him and alone. Alas much like the Mike Greenwell/Jose Canseco 1988 MVP controversy, Billy never got his public due. Still it is on the required reading list for all incoming freshmen at Yale, Brown, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Vassar and Wellesley. Former first lady and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton did a major thesis over Billy's work.

this next item is a rare photo. some people may not realize that billy had a sibling who once was the leader of the free world. in this photo his brother visits billy at the gas station. billy alway being the gentleman gives his brother the better chair (ala like archie bunker offering his chair to sammy davis jr.) and a big plate of meat while billy only has a meal made up of mostly white bread. astute viewers will notice cans of gunk on the shelf over billys head and cans of foamy shaving cream to the left of those. two cans of right guard deoderant spray can be spotted right over his brothers head. right guard spray has since been banned due to ozone regulations.

an argument has broken out in scholarly circles who debate whether this photo was the model used by e.j. gallo for their successful bartles & jaymes wine cooler campaign in the mid 80's to the early 90's. i'll let the readers decide for themselves.

Billy would have done well on the Gong Show.

I really wish the american public would gong out the constitutional pagans or what I really wish for is for a fact finding stop , with the whole bunch , in Guam . Then Rep. Johnson from Georgia's concern about it flipping over , could become real.

Few people know that Billy was a fantastic hockey player. What is more amazing is that he grew up in SEC and NASCAR country. Billy bypassed these sports and set out on his own to become a star on the ice.

During the 1950's there was only one place to play at that was Montreal. Billy thought he would never make it to be a Hab, but his play in the 1952 Olympic games held in Oslo Norway made NHL scouts sit up and take notice. He quickly got offers from five of the six teams (bad decision there Rangers) and signed with Montreal. He quickly moved up their juniors system in and made his NHL debut on February 16, 1955 as the Canadiens took on the Maple Leafs. Billy got an assist on an empty net goal in a 4-2 and his career was ready to take off.

His name is on the Stanley Cup for three wins and he won the Lady Byng award in the 1957-58 and 1959-60 season. As Montreal was switching long term direction Billy was traded to Boston on May 14, 1960. He gave the Bruins several quality seasons but fell into a Wally Pipp situation as an injury kept him out of the line-up due to a teammate's stick to his eye in a preseason game on September 25, 1966. Bobby Orr took his place in the line-up and Billy's career was essentially over.

However his love on the sport was not finished. He moved back to Plains, Ga and was the driving force behind the Atlanta Flames gaining a franchise. On October 14, 1972 Billy dropped the ceremonial puck in the Flames first home game against the Buffalo Sabres. Years later Mario Lemiuex said that Billy was a pioneer for keeping and gaining franchises. Lemiuex spoke in a 2002 60 minutes episode: "Billy Carter has been an inspiration for me in my attempt to keep the Penguins in Pittsburgh. Without him paving the way, there is no way that I would have the confidence or a plan to save my franchise. All hockey fans owe a major debt to Billy."

In 1980 as the Carter Administration was suffering several setbacks both domestically and internationally NHL owners were making back room plans to unfairly punish Billy over what was occurring in Washington. They secretly came up with an obscure loophole in the teams charter and the Flames were playing the 1980-81 season in Calgary where they remain today.

Billy Carter passed away on September 25, 1988 exactly 22 years after his eye injury. The Calgary Flames wore a "BC" patch on their uniform for the 1988-89 season to honor their franchise founder. That was the only season that the Flames have ever won the Stanley Cup. Who says that there aren't guardian angels?

From the collection I present to you a 1960 PSA 10 Gem Mint Shirriff Coin depecting Billy Carter.

These photos depict a very dark moment in the life of Billy Carter. Before camera phones, TMZ, Youtube and 24 hour news global icons usually got away with everything. Unfortunately Billy got caught with the wrong product at the wrong time and a quick fingered member of the paparazzi snapped off a pair of once in a lifetime photos. He sold them to the New York Times who put them on the front page top fold in the next issue along with a 13,000 word story exposing this scandal.

Loyal drinkers of Billy Beer were devestated. Would the Burger King be caught with a Big Mac? Would George Steinbrenner wear a Red Sox cap? Would Michael Jordan wear Reeboks? NO-NO-NO.

Naturally this was the beginning of the end of Billy Beer. Once regarded as a major threat to Budweiser, Billy Beer sales plummetted. Of course one products loss is another ones gain as Pabst beer sales rose 106% for the fiscal quarter following these photos.

(And yes that is an empty case holder of Miller in the corner)

The date is December 31. 1977 Billy's Brother, Jimmy is in Tehran, Iran to bring in the new year. He toasts the Shah, reiterating American support and calling him "an island of stability" in the troubled region.

Fast forward less than two years later. In July of 1979 in a dramatic, nationally televised address, Carter addresses what he calls a "crisis of confidence" in America. Though initially well-received, many object to the tone of what is soon dubbed the "malaise" speech. Two days later he asks for the resignation of his entire cabinet eventually accepting five of them. In November Islamic extremists take over the embassy in Tehran holding American hostages. With the economy in shambles, Soviet troops cross their southern border to invade Afghanistan on Christmas day 1979.

Not a good year to say the least. However the most damaging thing occurring was that Ted Kennedy decided to challenge an incumbent for the parties nomination the following year.

The pressure of the presidency is overwhelming. Most men age rapidly. Nixon got drunk and talked to paintings, Clinton had his interns to relieve stress. Obama watches reruns of Good Times and Sanford and Son. For Jimmy Carter it was watching the Godfather movies part 1 and part 2.

The more he watched the film, the more he is thrown into a frenzy, particlularly one scene in part 2. The president keeps asking who is feeding information into the Kennedy camp? Finally the truth sets in. Billy is a spy for the Kennedy's. It all makes sense. His book is a hit with the Ivy League crowd (see day three of this thread) and is trying to be someone.

On December 31, 1979 Jimmy goes to a party in Plains Georgia with Billy. It is twenty one years to the day that is portrayed in the movie.

At midnight, the guests cheer the coming of the New Year - it becomes 1980. Everyone cheers, embraces, and throws confetti into the air. Jimmy whispers into Billy's ear as they grab each other. "There's a plane waiting for us to take us to Washington in an hour, all right? Don't make a big thing about it. (He forcefully grabs him on both sides of the face and kisses him - Georgian style. It is the kiss of death on his lips.) I know it was you, Billy. You broke my heart. You broke my heart.

Years later on the pier next to the local fishing hole, Billy teaches young Jeffrey Carter "how to catch the really big fish" with his secret technique of saying a "Hail Mary" every time he put the line in the water.......

Again for you viewing pleasure we bring you eerily similar photos of art imitating real life.

A dreadful moment in Billy's life. Billy went to the roller derby and met a person who he thought was a woman. How can love be so fickle?

The year is 1991. Billy is safely in the arms of Abraham, but his legacy remains in high regard. The public is clamoring for more Billy and Hollywood decides to cash in with a movie of Billy's life. Unfortunately in their haste to get the picture the only "star" they can get at that time is Sylvester Stallone.

The film is received with amazing fanfare by the public and critics alike. It did a record (since broken by Avatar) in box office sales for an opening weekend. All is well as White Castle signed a lucrative contract with the producers to market items from the movie with cheese fry sales.

Then a tragic mistake is made at Oscar time. The producer figures that it should go in the foriegn film category due to no one being able to comprehend what Stallone is saying the movie without subtitles. The academy disqualfies the movie from all Oscar possibilites and the movie goes straight to VHS at that time.

Below is an original full length poster advertising the movie.

I thought the movie " deathrace 2000" was Stallone's (machinegun Joe ) high point in his movie effort ( I have a difficult time in calling it a career ) , but not has high a point , than , what I believe to be his first wife . She was a babe.---- Sonny
