Which of these cards would you rather have?

If you were purchasing the below card, which one would you choose, or are both not in a condition you would not go after and would simply wait for a better centered/conditioned PSA 8. Though this is a modern card I am new to older/vintage cards and am curious what everybody looks for in a card such as this one. I'm looking at picking up a OPC PSA 8 version of this card in the near future. Thanks for any replies.

B:

C: Neither, as I would wait for a better conditioned/centered PSA 8

    C.

Centering is fine with me. It's the rough edges and washed out/faded look that takes away the eye appeal for me.

    I don't collect hockey - but I think that's a tough issue.

The two scans are not similar - so it's like apples and oranges with respect to selecting.

I would have to see the two cards in person to be sure.

I don't like B so much and if A is that faded - I'd pass on that one also.

    So, I'm leaning towards C.

    I'd go with C.

The centering is perfect, and rough-cuts don't bother me at all (although B does have maybe a bit too much rough-cut), but both cards have other issues that to me anyway, make them low-end 8s.

I am also in the market for this card, and have looked at both too many times to count. I agree with the others C.

I would go for C too, but pick B over A if it were between the two. Before purchase I would want to see the back of A and B.

    IMO

If I had to spend that PSA8 $$$ on a Gretzky....

Id buy 5 raw cards in EX for the same $$$!

Those 2 PSA8 cards you show and not NRMT-MT, they are EX. Rough cut or no rough cut, they have EX type eye appeal, not better.

Both have bad rough cut, the top one is a bad faded scan and has a rub mark upper right corner, the bottom card is overgraded, print spot and some bad roughcut w/chipping

This is what an "8" should look like
    1979 O-Pee-Chee Gretzky PSA-8

PS took a quick look..... Ive seen a few PSA6-7 that look better than the 2 PSA8 cards you showed. and the 7's sell for 1/3 the price of an 8 sometimes.

Buy the card not the slab

That is such a tough card. There are so many things against that year with centering, color(Blue border) or the rough cut. I don't like either one of those cards shown and I would wait for others.

If card "B" was any other issue, any other year it would be considered "poor" by almost any standard. I don't understand why the standards are different for those darn OPC's.

I'd say C if you have the money hold off for now another one will come up.
