"French"? unknown

I've posted this before a few years ago, but am going to again in the event that a new member may have knowledge of it. The piece is about the size of a US nickel...indeed my first thought was that it was made of one - it appears to be made of copper/nickel or similar. The initials of the engraver or artist look familiar, but I can't find any other examples. Not too long ago a member of another coin related forum notified me that he was looking through the achives of the site and recognized the piece from the photos that I had posted in the old thread, asked for particulars, and then did not get back to me. Sorry about my photos, both sides are the same color. Any ideas?

I have absolutely no idea about this one, but it almost put to mind an engraving on a buff nickel. Just a thought....
