Our government needs to get a life. They can't regulate the internet. Ridiculous. Washington has turned into a bunch of old dudes that think they own every damn thing. I say if they guy can flip a profit, good for him. Capitalism is what built this country and is the reason most of us collect paychecks every week.
  • If the person selling the domain names is not trying to sell it to the listed "name", does that not make it somewhat legal? It seemed like that was a portion of the concern in the wiki article. Also if the names were not picked up after the original owner did not renew? Interesting reading but to many technicalities to touch with a stick.

in most cases this has nothing to do with the government. anhueser-busch now part of ab-inbev is currently going through a domain name issue with some korean guy.

there are a lot of things that you can make off of, child pornography, selling heroin, being a coyote and smuggling people into the country and name, trademark and copyright infringement. if someone took wabbitwax.com and turned into a gay porn site you may not think that is the type of capitalism that built this country. image

I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

<< <i>Cybersquatting is one of the most loosely used terms related to domain name intellectual property law and is often incorrectly used to refer to the sale or purchase of generic domain names. >>

The OP's offering doesn't seem like cybersquatting through the wiki definition to me.

I own one myself - www.mickeymantlecards.com - that I thought I might one day build and sell MM cards. I also got leaned on by ebay's legal team for one I set up called ebayichray.com (pig latin) - that wasn't worth the hassle. I didn't intend to stick up ebay for it, but had the idea (when ebay first started) of a co-op to teach people how to make money on ebay, plus provide scanning, photos, listing help etc. Never did it, and didn't care enough to dig in my heels. I think ebay liked the name and did the reverse-thing mentioned in the wiki article to get it out of me for free.

Yeah but the internet is not owned by our government or any other government. It doesn't belong to them to regulate. The internet is not a United States thing, not a British thing etc.. It belongs to no one.
